We had to replace the fabric because the original VW canopy had a seam which split – a common problem. Campervanbits supplied us with this replacement VW part – now made without a seam. Shayne sent us some helpful instructions and there is a YouTube clip which shows how to get the awning casing off the van. Take care attaching the canopy part 3 to the roller part 2 and then putting it into the roller housing- you have to feed it down a narrow channel and it’s easy to bend the flange. We had to leave one of the fabric retaining screws off so that we could slide it down the channel. However, looks good now, nice stripy fabric and good that there is no seam to split. It’s a bit fiddly but I’m no DIY expert and we managed it without any major problems. Feed the fabric back into the housing on the van side and on the wind out side channels both at the same time, but by bit. Takes 2 pairs of hands. It’s a lot cheaper to do this than buy a new awning – quoted at £1000 plus from our VW dealer. Thanks campervanbits – a great resource, helpful team and speedy delivery.

Like the previous reviewer, our awning fabric on our T6 split along the seam and so only two options were available to us – source replacement fabric or replace the whole awning which was not only wasteful, but also quoted at £850 from VW.
A no brainer really and thanks to Campervan Bits sourcing this genuine Thule fabric we saved ourselves a lot of money. Shayne kindly sent us some instructions and we found the replacement quite straight forward. The only major issue was that we forgot that we were effectively installing the fabric upside down and so at one stage tried sliding the leading edge into the wrong channel and wondering why it did not fit! A few choice words later and a sudden realisation and we were home and dry. We now have a lovely ne awning fabric and no seam! Thank you Campervan Bits sourcing- all we need now is some sun!
