Hello everyone!

We rented a beautiful VW California in Austria, but few days later we just got stuck at our parking spot in the middle of a road with the opened top roof. Please help, it's cold here, and we don't want to stay here :(

We tried turning on the camper heat for the first time, but the top camper dashboard at the top (the place where you control the van's fridge, lighting, rooftop, etc.) got frozen with the "Error: auxiliary heater" message.

We can't change any settings, which means we also can't close our top roof and start moving.

Please help us. Here are attached screenshots + a short video showing the fuses near the driver's seat (at the left side + smaller above the seat). Hopefully it will help to visualize the stuff:

Any suggestion, please? Sorry for this longread, we're kinda desperate here in the forest.

Kinda regards, Olga

I cant remember which four fuses is that you need to pull out, an alternative is disconnecting the starter battery in the engine bay for a few seconds to reset the control panel. You will get various warning lights on when you restart the engine but move the steering lock to lock & drive a few hundred meters and they will clear.

This might help and its in German if that is easier

Thank you for your message, Andy! Disconnecting the starter battery in the engine bay is our last hope for tomorrow's morning (crossing hands that we'll find someone with the right key, because renting company didn't put any tools to our van).

Thank you, Stuart! I'm checking all these threads, everyone is saying "fuses 5-8", but I can't understand where those four fuses in my car (I've attached photos from the under the driver seat area, hopefully someone can navigate us through this challenge)
It's the 4 fuses above the Relay 645

As I recall these 4 fuses are not under the seat but under the dash on the right. They are described in the California supplement. I'll post back with the English description.

Rhd vehicle, but I think similar placement for LHD.

Thanks, everyone!

We found the correct fuse to unplug and plug it back in under the driver's seat. This tiny light-brown bastard with the number 5 was responsible for the camper control panel (check the attached screenshot and this video:
).

It helped us restart the camper control panel that got stuck with one message: "Error: auxiliary heater."

After the restart, we were able to close our tent roof and continue driving :)

I hope this little story will help someone in the future.
