Hi

I want to buy a new Beach 150PS with manual transmission, finance is in place, ready to order. I've been researching/faffing around for ages & I had a webchat with VW a couple of months ago asking them, wheres the manual 150PS Beach gone on the configorator? They said its been discontinued...thats it.

I assumed and hoped it had really come off temporarily due WLTP testing or something like that I thought I'd sit tight.

But, maybe VW webchat was right and its not coming back in the foreseeable future so I potentially need to rethink or wait indefinitely.

Assume I'm not the only one thats been looking for a manual 150PS? Has anyone else come across any information from a dealer etc. that might give me some hope they're coming back?

thanks
Tony

Hi the 150 manuals did not meet certain emission limits at various rev ranges so they have been discontinued you will only be able to get dsg from now on. The 150 manual will not be coming back unfortunately

Still on sale in Germany

The California 150 manual is still on sale there. THE CO2 level is high though.

Interesting we were told in the uk network that it was due to emission limits being exceeded during real world driving. The 150 and 204 could no longer be sold in manual only dsg.

Didnt the dsg box used to be an option costing 2 large? That means they are doing them for free now then?

Thanks god I got mine last November....
just before all this nonsense started.... 150 manual ocean ....love it, I like driving I like using the Gearbox I really didn’t want a dsg I drive a Defender day to day so my 150 ocean manuals a bit of luxury

Still on sale in Belgium too. The CO2 level is actually higher than with the DSG. But it's the opposite for 4MOTION .. ??? Astonishing !

Interesting, the Euro 6 150 manual has higher CO2 than my 140 T5 manual, thought they were supposed to be cleaner engines??

Maybe it’s because the DSG pulls the clutch in and coasts so often plus it has the extra gear (I assume the manual is 6 speed)

I must say I was 50/50 on the DSG and didn’t love it for the first few weeks but now I’m used to it (and it’s used to me!) I do really like it, especially in town / traffic. It’s never going to feel sporty and I would have one in a quick car it suits the van and the 150 engine.

The only way to control Emissions in the real world is to take the Driver out of the loop and let the computer control the engine and gearbox to always be at the optimum under all conditions.
As time goes by I believe we will see Manual gear boxes gradually being phased out except for specialised vehicles. Autonomous vehicles will have automatic gear boxes. In a few years there will be no option.

i think by definition manual gearboxes will cease with the production of fossil fuelled vehicles.... EV's are all "Auto's"
Anyone considering learning to drive in the future has a legitimate choice as to whether its worth learning in a manual vehicle.....

Tougher real world tests now..... The Euro 6 will undoubtedly be cleaner, its just has to reflect 'actual' now rather than lab results....
I get what you are saying but are the forced regens (T6,done every 2 hours driving?) taken into account when they are burning loads of fuel with the ignition off?

I don't think the dsg is free now. I think you're forced to hand over the additional 2 large within the starting price now....

Although I'll bow to the wisdom of others in that department.

Thanks

I agree WG... I used to drive an auto BMW with 7 speeds and hardly noticed when it changed gear. It seemed to always be in the best gear. I currently drive a manual 6 speed and it's a lot of work to constantly monitor if I'm in the best gear... so often I am not. A computer can do a far better job than me in that regard.

I'm not sure an autonomous or 'driverless' car will ever be better than a human though... except in very sterile, controlled areas like airports for example. As soon as you introduce an 'oddity' into it's way, it needs to apply an incredibly complex set of logic to come up with an acceptable answer. No camera is yet able to do what human eyes can do; No hifi system is yet able to replace live music.

I'd love to look forwards 50 years to see how far we have progressed with this.
