Hi

I have seen several posts within threads regarding issues 6.1 owners are experiencing.

Thought this may be of interest to 6.1 owners, those who have ordered awaiting delivery and those considering ordering.

Where do I start...
Roof getting stuck

Camper display frozen

Table on kitchen cabinet bolts loose, the ones that make it slide.

Plastic bracket underneath table fixed in wrong place...on all tables! You cannot use the black webbing strap to loop over your bench seat headrests because of this.

New catch design inside the cabinets broken off on ALL of my T6.1s.

Drawer front under bench seat incorrectly fitted.

Bolts on camping chairs loose.

"Please wait..." stuck on main display.

Battery indicator tells fibs.

That'll get you started

Is VW aware and doing anything about any of these issues on future new builds that you’re aware of? Mine starts it’s build on 5th October.

All reported to my local dealership.

Well
Here goes !
Infotainment update!
That’s it.:)
Nothing else ,6months in and all is well,,
I think you get good vans and you get bad vans
It’s like anything it depends on who’s on your van on the build day I suppose?

I must be really unlucky then. All of my T6.1 have the same issues!

Really :( that is unlucky
Well just I'm not going completely mad. Have a look at the black circular disc underneath your kitchen table. I'll put money on the fact it's fitted to the right of the collapsible leg....AND you will not be able to make use of the black strap that goes around the headrest of the bench seat and connects to this.

I have never in all 12 yrs of owning a cali actually used that to be honest but I’ll try and look if it helps you;)

Also check for signs of stress fractures where your left hand kitchen cupboard closes...bet there is signs of stress.

Just had a quick look
Nothing wrong here is yours a rental van?
Maybe miss use?

Ocean model. No problems so far with roof or frozen control unit but:

Radio stucks loading user profile or it does not connect to internet

Fixed by a software update at the dealer, but not for the radio itself but for the unit where the esim card is. They told me this is a recognized problem and the update description mentions this problem.

Battery remaining time is random

But the percentage represented by the blue bars seems to be consistent. Curiously it is the remaining time and not the percentage what drives the unit control decision of shutdown devices. It has happen only once but control unit powered down the freezer after time left jumped to just 15min having 50% of the battery. A couple of minutes later it jumped again to more than 30 hours left. I suspect this is related to current flowing from leisure batteries to the main when the alternator is off. Waiting an answer.

Maneuver braking function does not work.

I am not talking about park-assist neither other fancy assistants, but the basic park-pilot. I have the option to enable it in the car options but it does not work, tested with cartons. Also, the button to disable it when park-pilot came in suggest it is enabled but the button itself is disabled and does not respond. I have also tried all combinations possible between park-pilot automatic activation enabled/disabled and braking function enabled/disabled. Waiting an answer.

Table strap fixing point at the wrong place

Or the bundled strap is too short. Already discussed here: https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/threads/t6-1-table-strap-fixing-point.36158/. Waiting an answer.

Child safety net brackets cannot be fastened

I think this also has been discussed here: https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/threads/t6-1-roof-safety-net.34488/. Waiting an answer.

New 6.1 in March. One problem. Three times electronic roof has stuck at three different campsites all on day we were leaving. Each time sorted itself after around two hours including driving around campsite with roof up looking like a total idiot. There is a warning. The night before Each incident the lights in the roof failed to work while all other lights were working. Took to VW garage and roof was recalibrated. Happened again a couple of weeks ago. Back to garage on Monday. Have lost confidence. For the record followed advice and kept engine running when trying to bring roof down. It’s an annoying puzzle

The auxiliary heater on our 6.1 is driving me nuts. It refuses to switch on in heat immediately mode/continuously mode from the control panel, but does switch on from the remote control. After an hour or so it randomly switches off completely, so we wake up in the morning to a cold van. Its not the thermostat because the indicator light goes out, and its not the drive away function which is set to 00.00 - although I have to say the new functions are really quite confusing and unnecessarily complicated. What was wrong with the one on our previous 6.0 Ocean. You know - switch goes on/switch goes off.

The electronic roof bug that the others also mentioned. VW just does not give a flying f**ck about it. they told us to unplug fuse 5-8 if that happens. And it happens a lot and i cant imagine pulling fuses twice a month is good for the car.

So the thing is, the new camper unit is crashing at some point and you cant close the roof then. But VW was so confident that the CU is amazing that they got rid of the reset button/key combo from the t6. so the only way to restart the CU is to unplug the fuses. after that you can close the roof again

the issue with VW is that if they have a design fault they wont fix it many years, i.e. the old roller shutter wardrobe doors that fall to bits in hot weather, how long did it take to replace them with the new ones on the 6.1, it took years !!

Hi, I’ve had my new T6.1 for a month now.
1, The driver window refuses to close and I was (helpfully) informed by the dealer to use one hand on the glass to help it up while feathering the window switch to get it to stay in place. Not much help when your trying to leave the M6 toll section in the pouring rain.
2, I get EPC error lights, the engine operates at restricted power and am informed that the ACC isn’t working when using cruise control in wet weather.
The dealer has had the van for the past two days without feedback, anyone else experienced similar on the EPC / ACC and had it resolved?

Thanks

We’ve had ours since September. So far;
the back hinge on the roof broke so we couldn’t push the roof up to stand up in the van. In mid holiday so very annoying. VW said they'd never had this happen ever so maybe we were unlucky or maybe it’s. 6.1 issue
a crack appeared in the casing above the window
the water tank and waste tank sensors don’t work. Haven’t worked since day one. They had it in the garage for hours trying to fix it with no success. They doing research then taking it back in when they’ve figured out the problem.

annoying things BUT we're absolutely loving the van and the life.

still need to get my T6 booked in for the waste water sensor that has stopped working

All very annoying and on such an expensive vehicle. I suppose the roof issue is confined to the Ocean which would be another tick in the box for the Coast.

The sliding of my 6.1 door could not close anymore.
It took 10 days for the dealer to have the part to be replaced (covered by guarantee).
If this happens to you, you can put a strong tape to keep the door closed when driving.

I had also the catch broken in the left kitchen cupboard.
Had to pay 15€ for that, not covered by guarantee.

When I try to update software, it is continuously searching for updates but does not find any. If there are no updates, I would expect a message telling me there are no new updates.

Apart there problems, I like the van a lot!

Had my van 4 days - so far only faults Are grey water tank shows some water in it when it’s empty (valve open for over 2 hours) and drivers heated seat doesn’t work.
