Firstly a big thank you to everyone on this website. Looking through the threads enabled me to sensibly spec a Cali Ocean, whilst avoiding the pitfalls such as heated rear windows etc. So on 7th Nov we placed an order for an Ocean 204 DSG. So we were really excited when it promptly arrived at the dealership last week (beating tax increase) & arranged to pick it up yesterday.

However...on Friday the dealer rang to say that it has been supplied with the front & rear seats being a different design & colour!! Not only that but the rear seats are not even a UK spec/option. Hence can only assume we have a European seat design in the rear. Unfortunately we now to have to wait 2/3 weeks until they can ship over the correct rear seats. It really does make you wonder about quality control when they can ship a Cali with non-matching seats!! On the positive side it does look lovely & two weeks will fly by :)

:welcome I would not let this be a damper on getting your van. Although it makes you wonder how it got out of the factor and over the seas!

Our bed stuck down and we had it removed for repair and used the van without bench seat then when fixed popped back to dealer and waited while they put in back in. Yours is a simple swap over enjoy the van get seat swapped over once in stock.

Would like to know how different the seats are ?

Welcome , are you saying the front seats have diffrent fabric than the rear seat?
Would be very very strange if those pass the Quality check ....but then again ...hey it's VW!
Have you seen it ...pictures ? That would make a nice story to tell in a few years sitting at a campfire

:welcome

I'm sure you will enjoy your van but increasingly VW reminds me of British Leyland. I don't know why! :D

I spent ten years of my life trying to do my small bit to save BL. VW are nothing like BL.

Whereas VW Corporate planners would happily go to any lengths to deceive others the Corporate planning teams at BL were more than content to just deceive themselves :shocked

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I read the above posts. I think the more appropriate reaction would be to get angry, and I think the similarity of VW to BL back in the bad old days is very appropriate.

We're still waiting for our T6 Ocean, ordered back in June, which apparently is currently corroding somewhere on the continent waiting to be shipped to the UK.

While others have talked of excitement while waiting to collect their new Cali, I must say my emotions are of trepidation.

Different coloured seats, and still shipped? A new low. :Depressed

I would also work on the dealer to work on some compensation from VW,

I would want confirmation that nothing else is European spec either. For example lights with incorrect beam. But at least you have your van pre VED changes. Ordered Nov and delivered now? Not bad going. Lucky You.

Mind you, I don't know but are the seats covered in packaging and the assemblers just go by labels? In which case it might not be found until the Dealer PDI and unpacking?

You make a good point. Could be VW's supplier at fault then.

Yep, look's like you're correct!
I'm guessing a 'Coast' seat has been installed, same Moonrock Grey colour but different centre fabric section.
Still, this day and age and all that...

So the fault is probably with the Seat Manufacturers mislabelling the seat.

Well mine was shipped without table and chairs and dealer didn't even notice. Still waiting 6 weeks later for them to be delivered..

Ours arrived without the upstairs mattress, this was not on the hand over checklist but then I would not have expected it to be! Dealer had to order one it which took 4 weeks to arrive

Think table and chairs are a item frequent to be stolen during transport.
A upper matrass however ....needs the roof up , or can it be pulled out thru the rollerblind hach? Have to try:D

You're fortunate that they are prepared to swap the seats out. There's are a few posts here where non-swivel front seats were fitted and in dealer swap out was offered. Vans had to be re-ordered. But perhaps those were dealer errors rather than VW build errors.

Who's check list?

Hi, Thanks for all the replies. Yes, it turns out the rear seats are from the coast, rather than an Ocean - similar, not the same colour, but certainly a very different pattern. The dealer made the valid point that WelshGas & JonnieBoy made about the seats being covered when installed. That said I don't think that fully excuses VW.

We have asked the dealer to contact VW to see if they would offer us a small gesture of compensation (given that we have now insured the Cali, taken money out of high interest savings, was about to sell other car etc.) Dealer suggested we contact VW customer services. VW customer services suggested we contact dealer....oh dear.

high interest
I thought that the only "high interest" accounts on offer at the moment were from payday loan sharks.

My Lloyds Bank savings account pays 0.05%, so I leave most of my cash in a Santander 123 current account which pays 1.5%.

Having been in a position where a simple mistake was made at the factory leading to the wrong vehicle being built my dealer was of the view that it was up to them to sort out on my behalf and not me. Your dealer should easily be able to come back with some sort of compensation. Not cash but an equivalent in the form of a dealer fit option.

Unless you tax it before 1 April you may be 'punished' by the awful UK Road Tax laws that will sting you for extra duty for the next three years so you may want to get onto them to tax it now unless you have already done this
