Just had to call RAC. Strange noise and smell , Alterator/workshop light on, any thoughts, thank you

Aux belt tensioner failure, belt come off?
The alternator itself failed/seized.
Did the power steering feel heavy at the time?

Thank you, yes the Alternator has failed, 2 nights in travel log and moved the ferry, ha ho, such as life
