Amarillo

Looks like SMG Tonbridge to me? If yours was a week 4 build I'm ever hopeful that ours (week 8 build) will be with us before the tax changes.

Great colour and name! :)
Hi Seaside Sussex, I am interested to know when you ordered yours? I ordered mine end of Sept from SMG expecting a March delivery and I have not even a confirmed build date yet. I hope I am not going to have to wait as long as Tom from Crispin Family from same dealer.

I need to find a bumper sticker to match the name:

Until now i thought "Amarillo " was the name of your dealer or so....
Realy stupid of me but i needed google again:D , in Dutch they are called "Gordeldier" two words in it : gordel means belt and dier means animal , the belts in thiere harnas....

What i recal hearing Amarillo is this

Referring to a place in Texas USA , you should go there once in the Cali
Great song and now we know what you need to play on your way picking up the Cali

I saw this! Was just walking past and got caught up in it, such a great atmosphere.

Glastonbury + Cali = Dream

Didn't manage to get tickets this year :-(

Hi @Hantshog
We ordered our Ocean mid October. In our experience they are more reactive than proactive in their communications, so we regularly make contact. We were originally told Jan/Feb delivery, then pre Christmas that we had an unconfirmed build week 9. This changed to 'confirmed' a couple of weeks ago. We are in production now (hopefully) - week 9. I am told the vehicle can be 'in build' for up to 3 weeks so it's going to be tight for the duty changes, which we have regularly told them we wish to avoid. Have you spoken to them recently for an update?

Hi regarding comment on a the 3 week build, I'd been told a two week build, but my order a Cali ocean with a build week 7 - w/c 13th Feb - apparently left the factory on the 18th Feb - end of week 7 - and VWCS indicated that it was now in transit or at the port when I called last weds.

Hi Jayne I keep in regular contact with Laine. Have you many extras? I have but I dont know why mine has taken so long. Definitely heading for increased VED. Hope you make it before the cut off date. Ordered Sept and only have unconfirmed build date of week 16. It's so disappointing.

We've got a few extras but mostly run of the mill stuff - DSG, CC, wheels upgrade, privacy glass, upgraded roll bars etc. Is yours a Beach? From reading on here/memory, seems lead times are longer than the Oceans.

Ordered Sept. here now, picking up 10am on 1st March exactly as ordered.
Did specify that if not delivered then I wouldn't want it.

204 4M DSG Ocean. BJG ordered same time as me, and he has a March delivery. it must be dealer allocation. I am really miffed.

I'm not surprised. Perhaps the 4 motion element causes longer lead times? (grabbing at straws here).

Dealer was only 4 into allocation and I didn't get a big discount but went for local and hopefully good service, so far pretty good.
Spec wasn't high.

BJG did the dealer actually discuss his allocation? If so that's interesting. It implies there is some truth in dealer allocation, with you getting your's in a timely fashion and me not.

Having waited over ten months, I feel that I now have a good grasp of the allocation system.

VWUK is given an allocation by VW. VWUK distribute most or all of that allocation to dealers throughout the UK, based on the previous sales history. I have been told that Liverpool gets the biggest allocation, SMG Tonbridge the second biggest allocation.

When you order a Cali, it either comes from the dealer's allocation, goes into a queue for a UK allocation from under performing dealers, or gets referred to the factory in Germany for an allocation.

Dealers get commission for each vehicle they sell from their allocation. They get a bonus commission for every extra vehicle they sell. They can also order demonstrators from the factory at a reduced price but the dealer must be the registered keeper of those vehicles for at least three months. For those reasons they are likely to give a modest discount on vehicles from their allocation, a better discount after they have exceeded their allocation, and the most hefty discount on demonstrators. (I have been told, and believe it is based on fact, but the percentages incorrect, that dealers make 7% on allocation sales, and an extra 7% on demonstrator sales. No mention was made about any bonus for exceeding allocation).

Towards the end of last year, because of high UK demand, the factory allocated an extra 300 Californias to VWUK, who then passed that extra allocation on to the UK dealers.

I ordered a demonstrator to my specification with a 14% discount in week 17 - so went to the back of the queue. I was given an unconfirmed build of week 41 which later slipped to week 44. Because I was such a low priority, and because my order was for a demonstrator, I suspect my dealer then gave my unconfirmed build date to a later customer. I was then given a build date of week 4, which I think was part of the extra 300 Californias allocated to the UK.

I have mentioned this before. My dealer was open about the allocation he said that they got around 28 Californias per year where three of them were normally designated as demonstrators.

...message ends...

Finally it's official yours now!

Load up it's allmost friday...
