Anyone tried a roof topper in the summer?

just a thought, never tried it but wondering if theory is reality...

Has anyone ever used an external roof topper in the height of summer (let's say south of France / med) to help keep the heat out and roof cooler??? Just wondering as in theory it should help but my fear of looking like a Burke may put me off. Thoughts and experiences...

In summer heat you need to open the roof windows to create a cool breeze above....not gone happen with a topper on.
