Arm rest problem

So suddenly, for no apparent reason (eg no one stood on it to get into the pop-top), the driver’s left hand arm red rotates beyond horizontal and ends up down at the seat edge, where it stops.

Any explanation or fixes for this? TIA.

Cam is bust. Easy fix but the aftermarket part on the well known market place is not exactly the same, so the range of adjustment is different. VW in their wisdom only sell the whole arm rest and would probably want £150 to tell you the cam is bust before replacing it.

I swapped my over in the end with the LH arm rest and put the aftermarket cam in that one.
