Aux heater running

Hi all,
I've recently noticed that when I start my Cali, the auxiliary heater seems to start running automatically.

Just drove to the supermarket only, 2 minute drive away. Turned engine off, got out and found the auxiliary exhaust was blowing out gases. There was no hot or cold air blowing through the vents though! turns off after a few minutes!

The heater is definitely not switched on on the control panel!

2008 Cali.

Any ideas?

How cold is it outside? Below 5 degrees the is an engine water heater that will run automatically to heat coolant. Gets engine up to temp quicker as well as the heating.

Mmm, it's about 4 or 5 degrees.
Maybe that, but there is definitely something coming out of the aux heater exhaust, and you can smell the fumes you get when the heater is on!

I'll have a better look next weekend.

Cheers.

The axillary air heater is under the right hand side of the van & the engine coolant heater is under the left side of the van, they are both just behind the front seats & hidden by the splash panels.

Over the last couple of weeks I've been aware of the coolant heater working in my van quite often.
