Bellows

I picked up my new 6.1 Ocean in November 24 it has 05S bellows, the label was still attached.

No issues so far but not tested in heavy rain so far.

Not sure of this has been posted, but a quick search yielded no posts.

As of 9 April this year, no further bellows replacements from version 04S onward are being covered by VW warranty.

From speaking with the dealer, the performance of the 04S, 05S and 06S is the same.

I would assume of you have the previous single skinned version, it may still be covered

How do I know which version of bellows I have? My van is a May 23 playe.

I have a 2023 VW Ocean, it came with the double skin bellows (03s) that leaked badly. Chelmsford VW were very unhelpful & said didn’t leak. I went to VW customer care & they got involved telling them how to test etc. it got changed to 04s, unfortunately this also leaked.
The bellows were then changed to 06s & it has never leaked, it is visibly different from 03/04s. We did however go to VW Colchester & they were superb, with their customer care & keeping us updated.

How do you know what serial your bellows are please
It's on a label that's tucked inside the space occupied by the vertical slats. Unfortunately very hard to see the tag when the poptop is installed.

Hello, forgive my ignorance, but what do O4S etc refer to? Is it California model or bellow model? What OxS version would a coast delivered new in May 22 be/have?

Thanks.

The 03s refers to the bellows model. We had a ticket attached to the bellows. The older cali’s had a single skin bellows, the 03s is the first version of the double skin and is a slightly different colour inside (whiter).

Thanks for the update on this important issue.

May I ask:

1. Which dealership gave you this information?

2. Has it been confirmed to be correct by VW customer service?

A May 22 Cali will have the original single skin bellows. The double skin bellows were introduced at the end of 22. The double skin has an inner layer that blocks light. And, generally, leaks in the lower 0xS numbers . There is a good update from a long time Belgium member who got the low down on the design issues at a recent dealer meet. I’ll update with his post below.

Does the Aquatex cause the bellows to change in appearance (e.g.discolour, etc) or touch (e.g. tacky or feel of the fabric)?
I ask because of concerns previously expressed in "threads " of VW perhaps not warranting faulty bellows which may have had Aquaseal applied.....how would VW know?
It sounds like a moot point if VW are refusing to change bellows now anyway?

It was Breeze VW. They have a letter from VW notifying they will not cover replacement bellies costs.

Interesting thread but with a 63 plate T5 I have no idea what you're all talking about re 03S, 04S etc.
.
I will say though, that after buying my Cali last year, I sprayed Fabsil (tent proofing silicon stuff) all around the bellows. It hasn't leaked despite some strong winds and driving rain over a stay in the New Forest new year's eve.
