Beyond USA and Europe

I heard a awful story of a guy who bought a new VW camper a couple of years ago. He ventured to India but in spite of having researched, a breakdown involved flying to Frankfurt for a diagnostic system and paying for many toes.
Outside Europe and the USA there seems to be little chance of help given a breakdown.

Even the US is difficult: they never sold the T4, T5 or T6 there, so there is no knowledge, no spare parts, nothing. What we know people who took their Cali there did was discuss up front with their garage, take a few parts with them, and when in trouble went to an Audi dealer in the US and had them call their local garage for guidance...

In South America, Asia and such, you had best take a T3 Syncro, like these guys:

There’s a member on here @Guy d that’s currently driving to Sierra Leone and back.

Mrs WW is Chinese and we’ve considered driving to China either just one way and shipping the other or return, perhaps one way with a Chinese group called 21rv.com that successfully do an annual Europe round trip in Chinese built motorhomes (usually LDV Maxxus based: saic bought LDV).

The roads are fine but the issues that concern us (with a 2018 T6 Ocean) are: quality of diesel, breakdowns, spares, no fully comprehensive insurance on a 50k+ vehicle outside Europe (usually minimum 3rd party at the border), and running out of adblue.

I think it probably needs to stay a dream for the insurance reason alone and, whilst I know we could do it in old synchro, it’s not the same adventure.

So far I’ve had no problems and long may it continue that way. I am even considering driving to South Africa. And in my madder moments considering driving back on the east of Africa! You only get one chance of these things! Happy to discuss further
