Hi all, we're based South Manchester/East Cheshire area and would like to know if anyone has experience of a bodyshop in this part of the world that could respray the front part of the roof on a T5 California - the fixed bit between the window and raising roof. The roof was fixed by VW under warranty 5-6 years ago for the corrosion issue but on this part only, the top layer of paint has now started to peel away - see photo.

Also, is this part of the roof made of aluminium like the raising roof?

Thanks in advance.

It’s made of an aluminium alloy. I presume you don’t have the plastic cap repair.
That looks like a problem with the Clear Coat layer rather than the underlying colour layer.
Any reasonable body shop should be able to sort that out. Not an Accident Centre but a body shop that specialises in resprays or custom paint jobs.

I don't think we do have the plastic cap repair no, and yes it does seem to be just the clear coat so not too urgent. That's useful I'll seek out a body shop of the type you describe - thanks

Clear coat failure , easy fix , flat back re apply clear coat , polish = like new

Any body shop can fix it. It’s not structural, just cosmetic..so would leave the repair until you sell it. Will happen to all Calis eventually - its is design fault.

Talking about different things. This is not the Galvanic Corrosion, which has already been repaired, but a Clear Coat failure of the respray following the original repair.

Yes seems to be this. Had the bubbling paint issue fixed under warranty c. 2019
