Evening All. My van is making a high pitched squeaking noise which is coming from the rear of the vehicle. I can’t work out if it is coming from the brakes or the axle. It only happens in reverse at low speeds. I’ve had a garage look at it before and they seemed to think it was coming from the spare wheel vibrating as the brakes are fine but I’m not convinced. Any ideas?

Neighbours cat you’ve run over?

Spare wheel vibrating, ???? Obviously you’ve checked it’s tight in it’s cradle? Sounds about as likely as me winning the lottery five weeks on the trot.

Alternatives...

Take the spare wheel out and try it again.

Have someone walk alongside to try to pinpoint the source.

Jack up each side (safely) in turn and rotate the wheel by hand.

Hi Liam.
I possibly had the same thing on our previous California T5 SE when reversing on to our driveway. Resolved by jacking up removing rear wheels and cleaning brake pad pins and backs of brake pads Refitted with copper slip on surface, but only very small amount, never had the problem again. Hope this helps.

Alan.

Needed new brake pads. £80 at local garage and problem solved. Thanks for responses.
