Hi all,

Yes I know Hotel California, there are lot of information about insurances in the forum (never replied a future message before :Grin)

Despite I'm living in UK for several years I'm kind of newbie in British insurance. My Cali is (almost) my first insured vehicle in UK and it's about to expire in one month so, I'm starting to browse here and there to decide where to get my next insurance.

I'm still pending of read the tons of information you guys shared in this forum, but I'm wondering whether someone could provide me with an extreme of the thread to start pulling from.

Basically some question comes out to my mind are:

- My Cali is one year old, of course my new insurance will be comprehensive but, should I get also a GAP insurance on top?. I don't know whether in UK is as in my country where you can buy several types of comprehensive insurance and the "most comprehensive" pay you a brand new car in case of disaster.

- Because my job, I don't know how many days a year I'll travelling around Europe. I could be some weeks on leave, like last year, of full time anywhere in Europe, like previous years, which it's a nice occasion to bring my Cali to travel around, but that clash with the numbers of days usually an insurance allow you travel abroad. How people manage that? There are insurance with no limits of days "abroad"?

- There is any basic advise you would give to an expat guy which is used to "expat insurances"?

First thing I'll do is have a look to the forum's VIP discounts

Thanks a lot in advance

My insurance allows me a maximum of 90 days at any one time. I believe the camping and caravan club allow up to 365 days, but you need to check

John

Caravan Club allows 270 days without question but it can be extended. Need to be a Member, which has some advantages - allowed to book sites without any payment and cancel upto last minute ( I think ) without penalty.

try comparethemarket or one of the on-line providers for a quotation - this will give you a benchmark to compare with other more specialist insurers. I am with LV and for an additional small premium i get unlimited use on the continent

@estresao ,
i 'm not in to incurance treads as i don't have a clue how it is in the UK , so go ahead and post away without searching first.....:bananadance

Computer said nooo..... actually comparethemarket said "Unfortunately, none of our insurers were able to provide you with a quote. This only happens for 1 in 200 customers."

I guess an LHD imported to UK Cali owned by someone who have European driving license and living in UK for few years is not the most desired customer an insurance company would like. It worked for me last year calling by phone.

Hi,

I was in a similar situation being German with an EU license (which many don't accept) and had my 3 year old Cali as my first insured vehicle. I am also going to be more than 90 days abroad. After much searching went for http://www.caravanguard.co.uk/. They allow EU licenses, have huge amounts of time you can spend abroad and were cheaper than man. Plus they are a specialist insurer.
