Slight issue on last but one night in Scotland. We decided to keep roof up at night on out T6.1 Ocean and simply close bed down and pull shutter for some quiet; we sleep downstairs. Go to pull bed down and loud crack noise...........wife had left a book on little shelf above wardrobe and as bed came down the leverage caused the plastic hinge to snap!!! Lifted bed and it slid sideways and took huge heave to get back in position and shut as was resting against bellows and scissor mech. Thankfully managed to shut so we were Hobbits for a day.

Spoke to dealers and told little porky - it's being replaced under warranty yay!

Ask the dealer to replace both sides with the new metal version.

At what point did you and your wife start speaking again?
:Iamsorry
You weren't on Arran or Kintyre last week by any chance?? There was a fortana red Ocean following us around??

Sadly not. We do love Arran, Seal Sands is brilliant.

We always stay at Bridgend site at Shiskine (nearly bought it when it went up for sale a couple of years ago) - last time at Seal Sands pitches were bit tight. Yes we love Arran and keep looking at properties for sale!!!! I've been up Goat fell via various routes 5 times now lol. Last night on Arran before oging to Kintyre was a little sad as someone who they class as 'resident' (has caravan permanently there for ocassional use) suffer cardiac arrest and we witnessed air ambulance land only 100m away from us on golf tee. Sadly the person died even though v quick response from someone using the site defib...........

Sorry to hear about that, hopefully the relative remoteness wasn’t a factor in the outcome.
I don’t know the Bridgend site, unless you mean Lochranza, a lovely site (and handy for the distillery of course).
Maybe see you there next summer.

Yes we've used Lochranza but prefer Bridgend which is down towards Blackwaterfoot. Really nice quiet site with nice owners.
Thankfully hinge broken on penultimate night so only one as hobbits. We don't use the upper bed but leave roof up and pull bed down at night and close shutter to make it quieter.
Not sure when or where next outing is - we both hope to retire this Christmas and normally go first 2 weeks of May and last 2 in Sept. Perhaps we may bump into each other - yet to meet another member but pehaps because we like a little solitude!

Spoke to dealer this morning and he confirmed both will be replaced with metal version - he said after never having heard of this before they had a second T6.1 same age with exactly the same lol

I did the same thing and also had replaced with metal ones under warranty , they said a few of these had failed so didn’t question. before it was done it was so tough to move it up and down when broken

A salutary tale for the rest of us. Does anyone know what T6.1 model year the hinges went from being made of plastic to being made of metal?

Sorry don't but ours may have survived if not for book on that tiny shelf above cupboard at the back and me not checking!!!! We don't sleep up there

I did this and it was fixed under warranty but unfortunately before they switched to a metal version. The plastic hinges are pretty flimsy for carrying such a load.

I originally thought they were plastic to be sacrificial so nothing else was damaged but obviously VW have changed their minds!

@Norfolk Jim is there a visible difference between the plastic and metal hinges once installed?

I’m keen to find out which version our T6.1 Beach has but not to find out the hard way :)

Mine is into dealers end of next week but the existing ones are simply black plastic - pretty sure you'd soon know. Lift bed up and look in the back corners and you'll see them. Piece of black plastic coming out of the bed frame square tubes - roughly 20mm wide. I'll take a picture of mine when done. The dealers have been v good so far and mine wasn't from them. They've also offered to see if they can adjust the drawer/aircraft style locker above the rear seat on my Ocean as the edge is v close to wardrobe when you close it - they culd have simply said no! Also had suggestion on rear blind which doesn't cover complete width of tailgate - suggest a black vinyl strip up side........
