Saw one like when eyeing up conversions and went to the factory, looks a beast, asked what they were planning and the owner said travelling the world off the beaten track. If you need a full on 4x4 camper and plan on travelling over deserts and through jungles this is it!

No, that’s a Puma Defender.

To travel the world off the beaten track you need a T5 if not older still such as a SIII.

Ah the good old days. This was ours 15 years ago:

Lived in/on one for two years, Mexico to Argentina. Great for going up volcanos, nightmare to sodding find anything in! While out there I saw a couple in a nearly new Type 2 VW from Mexico that looked a lot more comfortable than us....

Best we came across was a completely empty LR 109 with a heavy canvas back cover. Two guys travelling with only messenger bags. It was super light, so they could go up/down anything, no security worries (nothing to steal) and they could sleep in the back if needs be. Two of the calmest travellers we met!
