California History

Should this not be in the General chit chat folder?

Isn’t general chit chat for things NOT related to the Cali’ ?

That’s what the title says. But this thread is T5/T6...
Maybe there needs to be a thread for Cali related chit chat across all models...
I’m off for an early night...

Very interesting thanks for sharing GG - love my Cali :embarrased

Very interesting link GG, thanks for posting this, I learnt a lot from the video

Another history lesson: the ID Buzz as first electric? Meet the original full-electric '72 T2!

Interesting to see VW never wasted a good (oil-) crisis. It only took them a 850kg battery to charge in 10h for a full range of 70km at 70km/h top speed. Might have been the reason they only sold 20 of them in camper versions....;-)

70 Kmh, that’s faster than the Petrol variant!

Thanks GG, I enjoyed that especially the pic of the family with one sibling tied to a tree about to be axed by an older brother. Many a time I wanted do that.

Yes that's right. The Beach remains true to the original design brief. The "full blown" but compromised, "one trick pony" Campervan came later.

According to this video the original concept involved "camping boxes" (removable pods in modern parlance), to enable the greatest flexibility for multi use, including camping and so it remains to this day.

So that must make the "full blown" VW camper the "ersatz" version. :thumb
