I’ve spotted some posts re covers to stop any damage from the base of Campingaz bottles.
Does anyone use a ‘cover’ on their bottles ?

Those covers are for bottles used outside and not in a sealed locker. If you look at the bottle itself, you’ll see some thin slots around the base. In the case of a leak, they allow gas to escape through them and down into the vent in the bottom of the locker. If you cover them you block the gas escape route. This is what the local gas centre told me.

We use a length of soft plastic tube (B&Q), slit open and pushed over the sharp rim at the bottom of the bottle.

Yes. From Campingaz.

Well the Campingaz covers I have, from Campingaz, are open at the bottom with elastic in the seam.

Yes, that’s exactly what I went in to buy. But the chap at the gas centre said no if it’s going in a van’s gas locker. There are some slots around the gas bottle about 2” up from the bottom rim. The covers block these slots that are needed to vent any leaking gas under the bottle and out of the locker vent - which is right under the middle of the gas bottle. Made sense to me, but it’s only what he told me so I stand corrected if wrong!

I’m sorry. Absolute rubbish. Seeing as Campingaz sell such covers.

I put perforated material something similar to this at the bottom of the gas compartment (and also in the sliding drawer(s) under the bench seat):

I then wedge the gas bottle side with the supplied wedge plus various fingerless and full length work gloves all around around the side.
