So many reasons why people leave a perfectly good house, to go and sit in a field for a few days, what are we trying get away from, or maybe capture ?
Camper vans, as distinct from white whale motor homes and caravans, and the 'drawn curtains, closed doors syndrome', tend to encourage, communing with nature, ones fellow man and improvisation. Campsites, I'm happy with, ... well, don't want to book in advance, don't want 'minimum number of nights', want to turn up when I want, pitch were I want and take my chance on spaces, limited and sensible rules, sensible contained camp fires if I want, grass (the green type !) , a drinking water tap, a toilet, a shower .. that's it, no entrance guardhouse, site pass and and barrier, no hard standings, no hookup, no bar, no pool, no karaoke evenings.
As a previous comment, the more basic then hopefully at a commercially viable price for the site owner, the less crowded.
I guess I'll never meet many of you, lol .
I'm old enough to remember that's how sites were decades ago but then they slowly morphed into mini Butlins sites.

Not sure if the owners were being greedy but most probably had to follow the 'glamping' trend to attract customers in order to make a living.

I didn't camp for about a decade and got a wake up call with the 2 day charges at an M&MC site. Nearly as much as hotel weekend special break.

We paid £23 per night in Autumn half term for a decent Campsite that had good quality basics, Toilets and Showers. Don't like big campsites or anything with bars etc paying for stuff we wouldn't use

Above £30 pn I'd be asking myself is it worth it.

I’d happily pay less for less.
I wonder if it will catch on...???
;)
Sometimes less is more!
Camping in the Forest site - Setthornes, in the New Forest, Monday night cost £10.45 for 2 of us, fantastic pitch away from anyone else. No loos, no showers, lots of trees and deer.

@MarkVw2017.....is this your review on Pitchup ? ;)

"Looking for a five star Camping retreat with all mod cons, hot running water, luxurious showers with multiple power point, outstanding pot wash facilities? Need a clubhouse? On site entertainment? All the blades of grass mown in the same direction?
Then book somewhere else"

Got to Tenby very late last year and stayed overnight with EHU for £15.

The app Park4Night is also great and is all we use. Its free and has a massive collection of free spots as well as campings:
https://park4night.com/

I’ll second park4night . It has all the Britstops, campsites and anywhere else people overnight like carparks and lay-bys

Market forces apply for any charging campsite.
If I definitely want to stay at a particular campsite, for one reason or another, then I have to be prepared to pay whatever they charge or go elsewhere.
If a campsite is oversubscribed then they will increase prices to match demand with availability.

Prices have gone up because the camping fraternity has increased in number.

And with the ever growing popularity of camping and value of land going up its got to get worse.

I know add on seem unfair, but as a solo they are still charging me £27 , the same price for a family of four. It is tricky because I still take up one pitch, but use less facilities, but also spend less. I would prefer a compromise for solo's
Is anyone a member of C&CC and seen how the prices if their CS's are becoming totally unreasonable? Phoned 1 yesterday, -water, disposal and a toilet. £25 in March.

I think you get a week free then if you like you have to pay a nominal subscription.

You can add markers to places you like etc and add your own reviews to help others !

i have that app too. like it. the pub stops are great info

always amazes me what some sites charge for a single dog, often more expensive than children from all accounts and if you're lucky they may have more facilities than bins.

It's like paying for the dog on a ferry ....the poor dog does not even gets out of the car still they charge you 20-30€ each way !

Hi Autumn ... Which site was that ? ... That is on the high side.

Camping In The Forest...... Setthornes, solo £8.50.

Does anyone ‘camp’ overnight in car parks or multi-storeys? Obviously not with the kids :D

Don't tell them. They rarely check.
