I was wandering why I could not see contacts on my phone in car-net and have now discovered that it was when I had my phone plugged into the USB and app connect took over.
If I just let phone connect via Bluetooth then contacts are visible as per below image. If by USB then Bluetooth disabled.
Click on other destinations and you then get a drop down box with contacts as an option.
