Hello all -

We have one of the last run of T6.1s. I'd very much like to see, before I buy a Carista tool, whether it can actually access our van's OBD software or whether it's locked out by VW's SFD2 system. I think (hope) here's a chance it can connect, perhaps depending on when our van was built.

Would any Carista owner in the Sussex/Kent area be willing to check whether connection is possible, please? I'll naturally pay for the licence use and come to a location of the owner's choice. Ideally I'd like to try with an EVO unit, as it's apparently more capable than the original.

Thanks!

My 2024 Multivan has the SFD2 security encryption. The Carista EVO worked fine. Had to undertake a few additional steps to register to make changes but easily done.

Ch1pbutty - thanks for the offer! But WelshGas says an original OBD2 won't work :-(

WelshGas - Thanks also to you for passing on your experience. Looks as though it's safe to by an EVO, then! One thing - were the additional registration steps you mention straightforward to take: that is, doable via the app or on Carista's site, rather than via VW..?

Nothing to do with VW. Instructions all on Carista app when you try to change something protected by SFD2. Had to download another app from Apple/Playstore that generates a code for Carista . I use an Android phone but works with iPhone/iPad.
Basically I think Carista locks your phone, name & address, VIN and the app together when making SFD2 changes so you are responsible for the change.

Buy your Carista on Amazon. Send it back within 30 days if it doesn’t work and you’ll get your money back.

That's excellent. Much appreciated, WelshGas. And I like the Amazon route, Mehdime - cheers!
