Christmas in the Hebrides (Lewis and Harris probably)

Looks like you have found things to do in the long evenings! :thumb

Been trying to match up your photos with ours, we went the Outer Hebrides in 2008 (Coach Built) and 2011 (Cali); we have around 1000 digital photos but sadly only a few (taken with an iPhone of the time in 2011) of them have geolocation so it’s difficult to pinpoint where they were taken.

Here’s a few of the ones taken with the iPhone, maybe you can look out for where they were taken.

Also, see the price of diesel as at August 2011, which was shockingly high. I wonder how that compares with today’s prices! :D

Just found the GPS log I kept of the second visit in 2011, when we skipped the smaller islands and concentrated on Harris and Lewis, having run out of time to explore these on our first visit.

Cracking photos! Looks like you had a good tour-about indeed! It’s hard to do this place justice with photos, and you could certainly spend a lot of time here trying to do so.

Yes, the evenings are long this time of year, but we did bring a lot of Gin and the 4G coverage has been good all around (with EE) so far. Bed-early and up early the following morning seems to work best. Breakfast completed as the Sun rises, then you can make the best of the daylight, which is to approx 15:30. Sunrise ~09:30

I have twice toured the Outer Hebrides, by chartered yacht, at the opposite end of the year. Daylight hardly ends.

Stunning pics - as always: they make me want to return in winter.

Also great photos again jonathan,
It looks like you´ve found a good place to
escape to at this time of year.
We´re off to the emerald isle in a few days.
:cheers

Found another Community Hall with showers/amenities on an “Honesty Box” basis, this is a great idea and fair play to “the Community” for the hospitality.

Some really cracking scenery here! Our Cali is in its element! All the shops are closed today, and as such the Cali is being everything it’s meant to be. What a vehicle!

Superb pics....keep them coming

Great start to Christmas Day, Sarah was brave enough to go for a wild-swim.... Fair play, neither Tony or I had the courage.

The wildlife here is something else.... Really enjoying our visit thus far.

Wow Sarah! I was too cowardly to swim off the beach in Sicily last Christmas Day. Winter swimming in Scotland! What a lady...

As ever, great pictures. I don’t know how you make a dull grey Scotland look so appealing.

We overnighted at the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, the cliffs around same are pretty spectacular although maybe not a great idea on a windy day (as this place holds the Guinness Book of Records “Most Windiest Place in the UK” title.)

The Cali is a perfect traveling partner.... Even more so on this trip, having a warm comfortable space to relax in during the long evenings and nights really makes a difference. We have been able to park pretty much anywhere, in the “best” spots, with views money can’t buy. The Hebrides are well setup for wild-camping. The Hushinish Gateway offers coin operated showers, honesty-box toilets and overnight parking. EHU and 50L Water are coin operated also, and an indoor picnic area with a brilliant view.

Really looks great; I wouldn’t have dreamed that mid-winter in the Outer Hebrides could be so good.

Looks feasible for a Cali meet next Christmas? :thumb
