Cinch Hub reviews

Has anybody figured out how to use the storm poles yet?

Sure. Pop up the tent and then the storm poles go inside between opposite corners. I think you need to put the ground sheet in and you will find some stoppers the ends insert into. Then attach inner if using.

They worked fantastic for us this weekend and we had multiple tents and gazebos collapsed including some air tents wrecked but the cinch had no problem.

Ordered one today and they’re currently dispatching in 3-5 days for anyone that’s interested, should be a bit of a gamechanger as far as Cali + 2 kids goes. Does anyone have any info on how the optional storage bay attaches to the Hub? It’s not immediately clear from the website.

We’ve had one for around two years now. Two kids (3&7) also. It has a place for us - we tend to use it when staying in the UK for more than 2 nights and we think the weather is going to be a bit rubbish. Then it becomes a playroom / dining room. The rest/most of the time we don’t bother bringing it with us as it’s too bulky and we have other priorities to take. Currently travelling around france and usimg awning shades which are much quicker to put up/down and store in between a chair in the boot. On balance I think I’d buy it again but wasn’t a game changer for us.

Mine are a bit younger than yours to be fair, my son is 11 months and my daughter is 3 in December. Aside from all the kit we carry, having somewhere they can play and eat in that isn’t my pristine, expensive Cali is already a win :D

Beach owner here. On short trips we use it as a kitchen area and storage, getting changed etc. On longer trips when we take lots of stuff we take an event shelter to cook and dine in and the cinch is used to store and get changed in. It stood up to 55mph winds the other week with no damage, the event shelter didn’t fair so well!

I find it so easy to put up and take down . I’ve looked at the storage bay on their website and I think it would mean storing stuff outside with basically a cover over e,g no ground sheet underneath it and I’m not sure it would be 100% waterproof. If I was you I would wait for the reviews and join their Facebook group. If you have any queries you can ask on there or email them direct, they are very helpful.

The adds on I am interested in are the canopy and the additional groundsheet.
Canopy because it will stop any rainwater coming in when you open the front door, but I think I’m going to wait for a video review to see how easy it is to attach because I don’t want any more jobs.
Groundsheet because sometimes when you fold away the corners can be muddy.

A little tip is to use a door mat or picnic blanket by the entrance rather than investing in the carpet, this way you can easily remove to shake out without having to move all of your stuff.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! The storage bay looks like it attaches to the Hub itself.

“This easy-to-attach bay adds extra space for your gear and essentials with quick setup, and a waterproof shell and flooring”

Am thinking it’s where we’d put the pushchair and carpets leaving the rest of the Hub as a play space/living room/dining area.

If it comes as a totally enclosed space I think it will probably work for what you need it for, you would be accessing it from the inside via a door. Please send photos if you get one.

Will do, decided to take a punt on it with the 10% off. Who knows, might end up putting the kids in the storage bay and using the Hub as a wine room

I was interested in the storage bay for storing pushchairs and child carseats, let me know if yours fit!

Also considered either the campervan connector or the canopy for sites that are funny about awnings not being attached to the van and thought the pushchair could go in these.

I've just purchased a Cinch Hub this week. I liked the look of the bathtub removable groundsheet that attaches with velcro but when it's arrived they don't include this anymore, not immediately clear from the website or their latest youtube videos. They've also removed the four foldout doormats which I liked too. They sell a groundsheet separately now but this looks like a flat footprint style groundsheet that goes underneath. Must be a cost-saving thing?

Goldie, I have just received & now returning the advertised Groundsheet. Like you I thought it was a Footprint, but no, it is the Velcro Bath Tub Groundsheet which I already have. I want a footprint to protect the groundsheet & carpet when on a gravel pitch. I considered getting the Connector but have decided not to bother. I pitched the Hub for the first time 2 weeks ago & had it so it was just nudging under the Roll -out awning. Will see if I get any bother off the Site Jobsworth's we all come across. Just roll the awning in and drive away, and no need to park dead accurately on return.

It is. In March this year you got the hub, groundsheet, four door mats, storm poles and 2 lanterns for £299. Now they’ve taken out all the extras but kept the price the same so now you just get the hub on its own, the extras cost £87. Except for the four doormats which they don’t do anymore. Not very clear from their website or photos and their specs webpage is just blank/not updated.

Yeah I was disappointed to find no LED lights or door mats on mine when I used it this weekend. IMO it’s now pretty poor value for money.

I wouldn't bother with the storage bay for now, I had a chat with Ben at Cinch as I couldn't get mine to fit properly in the corners and he said he thinks there's a design issue with the latest batch. They've refunded me until they can work it out.

Hi folks. Sold our driveaway awning earlier this year but subsequently decided that some extra space alongside the van would be useful, so decided to go for a Cinch Hub based on reviews. I was going to buy new but managed to pick a used one up yesterday for a good price. Previous owner bought it during lockdown but only used it twice and along with the Hub I got an unused inner tent and groundsheet. I have a couple of questions:

Hub Storm poles - a worthwhile investment or not? I assume the storm poles currently on sale work with any version of the Hub?

Hub Carpet - with a groundsheet and inner tent already acquired would this be useful or surplus to requirements? Our teenager will sleep in the Hub when he decides to join us on trips.

I don’t plan to buy the campervan connector as our experience with the driveaway awning suggests we will prefer the flexibility of a separate tent.

Any other tips from Cinch Hub owners appreciated.

Storm poles, yes ours did very well in 40-50mph winds this summer in Cornwall. Be sure to remove them when folding back up. The first time we used them we forgot and snapped one. Very easily replaced at a reasonable cost. I have used the hub without a number of times, I just judge the weather.

I haven’t used inner tent because we haven’t used it for sleeping, it definitely wasn’t needed when used for storage or cooking. I’ve not even tried it out yet, it was a freebie when I purchased mine.

Ground sheet. I have always used a groundsheet. I have purchased a second one which I plan to modify to use as a footprint because when folding the hub back up the 4 corners get muddy and can mark the fabric.

Not tried it yet but I have bought a canopy, particularly to keep the front door dry and partially for a bit more space. They are very quick to respond to emails if you have a query what model you have and if the accessories fit. If you are thinking about purchasing a storage bay, wait because they are working on a fix at the moment as it doesn’t fit perfectly yet.

Used the storm poles once. Only needed in strong wind, good peace of mind purchase that work well. You’ll be glad you have them if you need them, but will rarely use them.

I don’t have the carpet, and rarely use the groundsheet unless it’s going to pour with rain, as I just use it to store stuff out of the van, including parking bicycles, and never sleep in it. I guess the carpet will be welcome if your teenager will be spending a lot of time in there, but not needed for just storing stuff and sleeping.

I bought the Cinch for ease of erection and the Mrs is mighty pleased!

I thought about the carpet but it looked quite bulky when folded so went for the groundsheet which worked well. I have a giant picnic rug from dock & bay (which folds up very small) so I figured this could double up as a floor covering if I ever needed it. Don’t have poles and tent held up very well in a storm. Only thing I missed was a doormat - I believe the older versions have integrated ones so you might be lucky - if not the outwell camping doormat rolls up small and does the trick!

We have a cinch, ground sheet, carpet and stormpoles. Carpet is a recent addition so only used once but it is very cosy! We were pitched on a hard standing with gravel so it was very welcome to have it underfoot as we don't usually allow shoes in the awning. Cinch seem to advertise having the carpet rather than the groundsheet, however I would not suggest that as the carpet isn't water proof. We prefer the cinch carpet to other tent carpets as it can be machine washed as it's not got the weird picnic blanket type backing on it.
We haven't used the storm poles yet but I would say they would be needed in strong gusts as the tent bends inwards!
We don't have the hub connector as we find it a pain having to connect back up to the van each time with our last driveaway awning. If its not too windy we just put out the van awning to the hub and it works fine.

I have the groundsheet, but like the hub have only seen it opened in my son’s bedroom. Looking forward to using it in spring

We have a Decathlon Basecamp pop up already and wondered if the Cinch tunnel connector would work with it. Any ideas anybody?

I always think the best thing about my Basecamp is that it doesn’t attach to the van - and all the ball ache that ensues.
That attachment is also eye wateringly expensive. I think my basecamp was about £60!

we have a Cinch, its great, but not bothering with the tunnel connector, we just tuck the entrance under the Van awning, even if we only have it extended a couple of feet, it is fine. Makes drive away & returning simple. Besides I think they are charging too much dosh for it

Sadly not. I don’t think Decathlon make them any more. We’ve had ours about 10 years - but it’s still going strong. Maybe try eBay?
