Coffemaker in the car

In our California Beach, we run an EcoFlow Delta 2 Max battery inter-connected to the van via an EcoFlow Alternator Charger, so can run a Breville Bambino Plus espresso machine, and induction cooktop to boot.

Upside down aeropress method for us.
Long Black style. No milk, plain or froth.

Using Glasgow's Dear Green Roaster's bespoke blend put together for the excellent Meadow Road Cafe in Glasgow's West End (Partick/Thornwood).
We usually grind it particularly fine at home and pack it into what claim to be airtight containers for taking away in the Cali (the smell gets out and it's marvelous).

We've tried most methods and kit over the last dozen years in the Cali and have settled on the aeropress. Mind you, it's unstable (tall and narrow) so a couple of times a year we end up knocking it over and it's a total b@$t@rd to clean up in the Cali !

We’ve just upgraded from the manual Wacaco espresso maker with ground coffee refillable baskets to the Outin rechargeable one, as described above. We have, however, gone for the Nespresso version with compostable pods from Roar Gill. Various reasons:
We only really want espresso coffee, not filter, and both these do a fantastic job of making espressos with a proper crema. The Outin with compostable pods is soooo much less hassle and mess than the Wacaco (great as that was when these machines came out). I won’t use normal pods, but compostable are acceptable to me. We use the Outin with hot water from the kettle, so it makes loads more than 5 espressos - the rechargeable battery does 5 from cold, or about 100 from hot water. We’re going to be using a kettle of water for washing up anyway, so we just boil it up early.

(We drink flat white or lattes, and use a stainless steel jug, directly on the gas, then froth it in the jug with a plunger handle thing)

Bialetti Venus Stovetop Espresso Maker, Copper.

KINGrinder K6 Straight Handle Manual Coffee Grinder

Ethiopian Coffee beans.
My latest favourite camper coffee, no elec needed, and the smell/ odour of the coffee is well, opposite of not wanted.

Coincedentally I have received my Outin coffeemaker yesterday and have made my first cups of coffee with it this morning. (Not sure if you are looking for filter coffee specifically, if so, it's not).

It's a portable coffee maker on battery (USB-c charging) that heats up water for you (so no need to heat it up seperatelty requiring EHU or gas) and makes coffee either by using grounded beans or Nespresso pods/cups. Tested it today and already love it.

When on EHU we use a normal Nespresso machine. But when 'off-grid' or when driving, we were never able to make Nespresso-coffee. And having to heat up water seperately kind of defeats the purpose.

Now, while off-grid or driving we can just press a button and get a cop of coffee.I'm surprised at how well it works. Max of 4-5 cups percharge but thats no obstacle asyou hardly ever drink more then 2 cups at a time and you can re-charge it againoff teh leisure batteries whiel driving or'off-grid'.

I use aeropress, but am addicted to gadgets and buying stuff I dont really need!!

How big a coffee can it make?.. how long does it take? and is it hot enough (I like my coffee hot!)

Love all this ;)

temperature was a worry I had as I to like my coffee hot. I read reviews suggesting it wasn't hot enough but I can't distinguish it from my Nespresso machine at home and steam comes off the cup when it's poured so I honestly cant fault it for temperature.

The max amount of water it will take for 1 coffee is 80ml. If you use hot water it starts brewing instantly. If you use cold water it takes 200 seconds to heat and make the coffee.

We tried to get a slightly bigger single shot this weekend using a single pod and c70ml of hot water - it was a bit weak, so we’re going to take our smaller coffee glasses in the van next time (or make 2 whole shots each…). Coffee comes out perfectly hot, as machine can top up your kettle water’s temp if necessary.

We use this for milk :

+1 from me for this. Don't use it much now as I have a large inverter & Nespresso machine in the van but I take this with me in the car and or picnic lunches. Works very well indeed.
