Is it these guys https://www.kernowtransporters.co.uk/volkswagen-vw-transporter-t5-t6-california/Not sure what dealers are charging, but there’s a specialist down south who said (if memory serves me correctly) about £800 for the upgraded canvas fitted.
I saw somewhere on the site it takes a dealer 2 1/2 hours to replace just the canvas ? Is that unrealistic?Only true answer is to ask a Dealer.
Lots of Labour time required.
They could definitely do a good job for you.
There is nothing to see just a mildew smell, it’s reminds me of the smell you get in places like Sri Lanka in fabric and mattresses (high humidity and low ventilation) I agree about the canvas. I think it’s the header that’s holding most of it, I will treat that and see what happensI wouldn't be too hasty with replacing the bellows though, the material
is so thin that i cannot see it holding on to a musty smell for too long.
A good spray and scrub with some funky upholstery cleaner and let it dry
out, should do the job.
Have you any pictures?
I thought you had an Isotop fitted? There is nothing to see just a mildew smell, it’s reminds me of the smell you get in places like Sri Lanka in fabric and mattresses (high humidity and low ventilation) I agree about the canvas. We do thought I would just take that out and wash it in the washing machine, while treating the canvas and only putting the isotope back in when the issue is sortedI thought you had an Isotop fitted?
I would just take the mattress and Isotop out, roof up and let it ventilate. If you are parked on your drive, leave it up as long as you can day/night.We do thought I would just take that out and wash it in the washing machine, while treating the canvas and only putting the isotope back in when the issue is sorted
There is no smell in the cabin with the roof down, it’s 100% the pop to roofToday would be a good day to get it open and aired.
Leave it all day...
As said above. Fridge and grey water are the usual suspects. My canvas has seen torrential rain and 60 mph gusts and still fine. Note, never used any sort of topper/wrap...
The canvas and all internal parts whereall replaced by the dealer under warranty as there was a leak in the tailgate. As I say there is no smell in the cabin with the roof downHi Icic,
did you ever treat the fabric chair holder, to destroy the mould and spores, I remember you had some significant mould on the canvas part of the tailgate And the dealer would not replace the canvas / panel ?
if this was not treated it is likely the cause of the smell, if it was treated I would repeat the process, fully soaking the canvas and plastic panel, leaving to dry fully (tailgate open) to eliminate the possibility of the chair holder being the cause
All the drains and surround are clear and extra cleaned this weekAre you 100% sure that the smell is coming from the roof? Only bad smells we’ve had in ours have been:
The fridge - left damp at the bottom & shut for a month or so.
Grey water tank not emptied and plug out of sink. Smelt once the trap dried out.
Finally a 6 month old bread roll left hidden at the back of a cupboard.
I would also be checking the roof drains & cleaning round the edge of the outside of the roof. If there’s water or moss sitting there for a while you would be able to smell it when the roof is up.
Can't give you an exact number, but not so long ago it was around 500 pounds for a canvas and 250 pounds for labour. So around 800 total. (this was over here in NL, but it gives you a general idea).Does anyone have an idea what dealers are charging for a canvas replacement these days ?
