I bought use Telecoms for the wifi provision in my California but I am having continuous problems getting a connection. My devises show the WiFi symbol but the browser just won’t open and connect to web sites. Both my devices are Apple. Does anyone else have similar problems or can you suggest an alternative WiFi provider to my Cali that works

I don't think you can use your own Provider without installing the kit - I believe its an e-sim that's used.
We have the Wi-Fi included for (I think) 3 years but in all honestly its pants. Exactly as you have found, the iPhone shows you're connected to Wi-Fi but you can't open a web page.
Whether something else needs to be done to activate I don't know, but its certainly not something I'd pay for.

I use a MiFi unit with a 5G EE SIM card - 30gb of Data for £9.80 a month

thanks guys…..using a phone is not always possible a 4/5g supply is not always available, the Cube system is the one recommended by VW the WiFi on my Ocean 2021 is set up for this system and points you (or it did me) to Cube

Cube (Cubic?) is just a 4G signal. Will be no better or worse than using your phone. Put the phone in the pop top and outside your faraday cage van when using, works wonders.

VW recommends whatever vendor they get a kick back from.

The only benefit from Cubic is it’s not one mast vendor, so will use whatever network has the closest mast to where you are.

You're probably not wrong about the kickback.

Yes, I like the idea they are a roaming network - great in the UK (when/if it works) but not at the prices!!
In EU you can just choose the best network on the MiFi or your phone - still a better/cheaper alternative.

Our EE phones work fine in the UK and abroad we have the old EE contracts so they still have EU access. We also have a roaming o2 SIM now in the Blackvue dascam unit and that works the same, UK and EU. So between the two we covered and the o2 SIM is only costing 6GBP a month.

i tried cubic when i first got my phone. i think the download speed is only 4 Mbits.
Your better off hot spotting your phone or buying a mifi. You dont get 3 years of free wifi you get 3 years being able to connect you Volkswagen app to your van.

I gave up my old EE roaming plans to get new 5G contracts but they did a good deal.
I just get roaming as and when now and they charge me 12.50 for a months roaming.
Didn't realise you could put a SIM in the blackvue dashcams - liking that idea as a back up.

I have an old Vodafone contract with full EU roaming but they have just written to me to say they are transferring me onto a new contract without roaming but 50GB extra data that I will never use. Time to look for a new contract I think.

I freescribed to cubic for a month.

Blew the free 1gb without even using it, maybe my iPhone was downloading updates, who knows.

Saw the prices and decided not to use them at all , not if it all vanished so quickly.

Feel your pain. They don't like legacy tariffs - none of them do.
I find since Brexit we don't roam as much so happy to pay for it as I need it.
