Cup holder / ashtray T6 Ocean stuck

We have a T6 Ocean. The cup holder in the middle of the dashboard (above the bottle holder) is stuck: it can't close anymore due to some obstruction. Can anybody guide me how to take this out?

On a serious note....

is something stuck inside it? maybe try a spoon handle and push down/dislodge whatever is in there.
