Cup storage

Where do people store their cups?
I had some Christmas presents and usually store our cups in the washing up bowl, with polystyrene. But these new cups have larger handles and I cannot think what to use to stop them clanking together.
I did use a towel but the water wicked from the tap and made the towel soggy and damp.
Any good ideas

those particular cups will fall apart soon anyway (had 2, both long gone ).
i keep my better quality cups on none slip matts on a shelf.

Cups belong on the shelf in the kitchen kabinet , or am i wrong ?

And yes, you’re right when cups are in the house kitchen.
But I can relocate them to one of the drawers when I install them !

You’re not wrong. 2 VW enamel campervan mugs for me for Xmas Quite like them though.
