Demand for campervans is going up

I must remember that one.

Festinger in turn explains the post-hoc rationalisation phenomenon in consumer attitudes. Which thereby explains why people who could only afford to buy a cheap van conversion come to believe that VW California owners are up-themselves tossers with more money than sense.

Which we are of course, but that's beside the point.

I’ve noticed that there’s an interesting “group action” in supermarkets at the moment.
People are in general, being over cautious when queuing outside, leaving about 4 metre gaps but once inside and on the prowl for the elusive half dozen eggs the distancing drops to less than metre.

Do you know if that's how the bluetooth on the new app is going to work? It seemed you've have lots of false alerts if you'd just walked past someone who later went on to develop symptoms.

Back directly to the subject, a used camper dealer in Holland (where the campsites {less loos} have reopened), reports today they sold 3 Cali's and a M-Polo sold yesterday.

I think lots of people will be looking at actioning some long held dreams to own a camper. The uncertainty around foreign travel will be the excuse they need to act now. Demand will rise. Whether prices rise enough to offset the financial worries of the crisis is another thing.

We are still waiting for our T6.1 Ocean to arrive from Germany. When it does we will be straight to the dealer to collect. Will we use it this year in the summer? Not sure. Will we get to Europe this year? Don't know. Will it lose value? Don't know, don't care, the money was set aside last year.

We are buying it for the next 10 years, life will move on despite this horrible virus. We, as a family, need something to look forward to, and the Cali fills that gap for us.

Everyone's situation, including financial, is different so please don't pile in and judge! More than ever we cannot wait for our new can to arrive, we placed the order on 6 August last year!!!

Well if we can't get away in our conversion it will be up for sale to go towards a used Cali. I can see there were quite a few in my price bracket over the last few weeks but those have all gone. They are either 2006 - 2009 or 2014 onwards so much more. I was looking to spend around the £32k mark on perhaps a T5.1 Cali SE with climate and 140 engine. Very few Leisuredrive conversions at moment for sale and those have either high mileage or much newer but still seem to command a decent resale price..............we'll see as mine is a good starting point on way to a Cali as really well done conversion and that company still doing literally the same layout as my 2007.

So that would mean I could go to my barbers for a haircut so long as she took less than 15 mins. Or I could get on a crowded bus for a 10 min journey.
Agree that for the purpose of the tracking App a criteria has to be set based on probability etc, but in the supermarket I’m keeping my distance!

Maybe a reason to buy used? Let someone else wait for delivery, sort out all the snags, add all the extras then PX for the latest "must have " model. If you have good bargaining skills, you could get a nearly new (or not so new van) that you can then keep for as long as you want to keep it.

I'm still waiting - how long I have no idea...............

No idea, but I've heard from my son in Australia who is an A/E specialist that the Dr's and Nurses aren't using the Australian version, which uses the same system, because their phones were going Off continuously. The workaround for them was to switch Off Bluetooth in the Carpark and only switch it On at the end of the shift and outside the hospital grounds. So it appears that the App performs a handshake with all phones within Bluetooth range, which is greater than 2m. Now, I don't know if the App takes account of the time you are in range of a 2nd Bluetooth enabled phone.

It’s taken me 4 cheaper van conversions to realise my inner “tosser”. I knew I’d get there eventually.

UK lockdown to be eased on Monday.

I wonder if they’ll open up self-catering holiday accommodation, including second homes? It would surely have minimal, even a positive, effect on R.

It would be harder to manage social distancing on campsites with their shared facilities.

Sunbathing and picnicking should also be manageable.

People living alone might be able to “bubble” into one other household.

I thought this thread was about campervans being in demand :headbang

You certainly have been waiting a long time
Our is on the drive now same thing happened to us as you but if it’s any consolation we only used it once then the lockdown hit...
I’m more than happy and would not of considered cancelling it for one minute

I can’t imagine many people will want to commit to an expensive PCP deal for a while. If demand is increasing it must be people in very secure jobs, or with lots of savings.

It’s definitely a great way of getting away though..
Life will move on .and life is too short....
if you can afford it it’s a awesome escape pod ...
but if you cannot afford new a second hand escape pod will always be available...it’s a way of life ,a get away ...jump in and go obvs when all’s back to normal.
I really would struggle without a camper in my life!!! that definitely would feel like lockdown!!!!

Buying my Cali is one of the best decisions I have made so far. It took me a long time to decide though.

I am chilled abiut waiting, until we get out of lockdown! My only concern is it was built Week 51 (2019!), then waited nearly two months for a tow bar, so what state are the leisure batteries?
