Diesel heater

Does anyone have a heater that works on another level then max and doesnt shut down if you set it to anorher level?
Have anyone had it fixed at your dealer?

Our diesel heater works fine. Access is via the camper control module under aux heating. It is not the parking heater which is for frosty days and clears the windscreen.

We set it to 4 the other night when it was 5 degrees outside and it kicked in a couple of times during the night. It may have been too warm recently for it to work on anything other than maximum for you. I am not sure what temperatures the heating kicks in for the numbered settings.

Remember that instant heating is for warming the van if you are stopping for lunch or something and generally requires the van to be driven afterwards. Continuous heating is the option if you are in camping mode and it will kick in when the temperature drops in the van. The warm air vents out under the kitchen block at floor level.

What is the fuel tank level reading ? (Should be 1/4 tank + )

How long do you run the heater at max level before trying to turn it down ?

If your heater starts normally and runs on high, but cuts out if you try to reduce the level from max it could be gunk in the combustion chamber.
The Diesel heater require them to get hot to burn off residue, if they are unable to reach proper working temp, they will simply gum up over time.

The Level max- min relates to the diesel heater integral fan speed, the lower the fan speed the less the temperature, lower temperature creates gunk in the combustion chamber.

It is recommended to run the heater once per month for 30 minutes minimum.
I do not do this but I do run the heater for a minimum of 30 minutes when I fire it up.
During the warm up phase you can get strong odour from the exhaust, this is normal and should disappear when the heater has been working at a decent temperature for a period of time.

Try running the heater for minimum of 30 minutes at max setting (longer is better) this should burn off most of the Gunk that accumulates in the combustion chamber.
Then turn the level down by one or two levels, continue to run for another five minutes, repeat the above until you reach minimum level.
Allow the heater to run on minimum for 15 minutes before shutting down.

I think part of what the OP is referring to is why, when you select a lower setting, does the unit completely switch off only to restart (at the new selected temp setting) ten minutes later.

Mine does it. It’s bloody annoying. Even reducing from say 6 to 5.

Thanks for the clarification, it Sounds like the temperature sensor only takes a reading intermittently.

what is the noise of your gas heater? mine makes a clicking sound. like a motor running on very low RPM, something like 3hz frequency (~180RMP). it's not very loud, but noticeable while sleeping. is it normal?
(sorry the noob question, I've never had an auxilarly heater before).

Yes. It's the fuel pump for the Heater.
