So - during a routine full service, the VW dealer found a lot of diesel under 'Connie'. They took a PoV video of the whole of the underside which was interesting and really helped with explaining what needs doing.
After a lot more investigation, it became clear that the high pressure fuel pump was leaking.
Sadly, the part is over £900 and fitting and VAT will take the bill over £1500.
Interestingly, there was no indication to me that there was a fault. No Engine management lights, no loss of performance, no change to the fuel consumption... a mystery.
Connie has done 36,000 miles, she is 5 years old and she has never been mis-fuelled, run dry or had vegetable oil.
I will be speaking to VW Customer Services about this (when they can be bothered to speak to me) because frankly, under warranty or not, I think that a component like this should be expected to last a lot longer than this... has anybody else suffered from similar, costly fuel pump problems?
