I'm in your camp Borris. Found our SE even with a Brandrup topper too hard. Now got a Brandrup topper on top of another Brandrup topper, fitted sheet, Supper Kingsize duvet from our rather large bed at home, and feather pillows, Magic !
Probably cost a lot more than most people would spend on a bed at home, but then California is more money than most peole would spend on a vehicle.

Better sleep than l ever get at home!

    Excellent. :thumb

I'll bet there are plenty of other Cali owners who would like a softer bed as well. Why spend all that money on a camper van and not get a good nights sleep?

Normally go to bed pretty early when in the van but tend to get woken by people having sex, what's wrong with Ovaltine?

That was a good list of equipment. We have found that practice makes sleep better in the van. We sleep on our VW comfort madress and a double sleeping bag.
We have been thinking about an Ikea topper but since we are in sweden we cant find a 150cm wide madress topper.
I can’t be bothered with inflatable ones.

    Hi Kave,
Well we've had quite a bit of practice in the last three years of Cali ownership and we've finally arrived at this formula which seems to work. Previously the mattress was just about acceptable but only for one or two nights. After which Mrs Borris would be complaining for days.
We've only tried this new set up on one occasion so far, at the recent two night Dorset Club meet. It seemed to solve the problem however further testing is required and no doubt further adjustments to how we can acheive the same result with less kit.

I don't know how familiar you are with the inflatable mattresses that I mentioned. To be clear they are self inflating. There's no need to actually inflate them yourself. Just unroll and open the valve and they inflate all on their own. You can add a little more puff to make them firmer to suit. When inflated they are about 50mm thick. They don't take up much space either when rolled up.

It looks like half of all participant Californians do sleep better in their Cali than at home, just like myself. About one in three sleep better at home, while for one in six is doesn't make any difference. Thanks for voting and confirming that I'm OK!

We use these self-inflating matresses. Have two single ones and just fold them in half and store on back shelf. Planning to get a topper sheet also.
