No, it doesn’t. The combustion chamber is outside, and air and exhaust fumes are taken in/come out outside your cabin.
Inside air is led across the heat exchanger, yes. The fan takes cold air in from the entrance in the footwell, and pumps hot air out through the vents in the B pillar. But that air is not ‘used’. It is just circulated.

And if the dealers info is correct I can also only reach that fan by removing the bottom plate. Not something I planned on scheduling into my cleaning and maintenance routine.
At least they figured out (after 4 weeks) what was wrong with it
