DSG gearbox and 'Sport Mode'

Since having the TVS DSG Driveability software upgrade, I no longer need sport mode, the gearbox is now more agile and always in the correct gear for the occasion with less lag and good reverse.
I still want to get this done to my van.
As yet haven't managed to find anyone within reasonable distance willing to do it so may have to go to Bognor at some point.
Has your fuel consumption altered Loz?

After having the TVS update I found that I now have a speed Limiter function in that when in Cruise mode with 70mph set, on a long downhill section where I would have expected it to 'runaway' to 80+ it went to about 73/4 and held that. I then noticed that it was now in 5th gear using the engine to carry out braking.
I only have standard cruise not ACC.

I tried Sports mode at the weekend for the first time, I usually override manually from (whatever) the leisurely gearbox option in settings (is). I found it perfect for the fast lane, travelling uphill, south after the Dartford crossing. Don’t think I’ll bother trying to choose the correct gear myself again. Having to press the selector button in order to change into Sports took me a second to understand initially.

Why do we still have a huge gear lever with DSG to shift to drive/sport/park etc?
Why not a little button?

The S function is pretty useless. To remove the coast feature, this can be done through the menu on the board computer. You may need to use the S function to get ready when about to overtake somebody. But the kick down feature by flooring the gas pedal to the click, achieves the same. Basically what S does will shift gears higher than D. Now on a petrol engine this may be useful as you tend to have more torque the higher the revs. On a diesel the max torque is at lower revs, and over revving the engine past 3k-3,5k achieves nothing, you are better off shifting on the next gear...
Do you use the coasting feature for downhill on a flat etc?

YES, There is a fantastic section of motorway on the north coast of spain when I coasted for miles with an awesome MPG value!

I always use D when in town but always use S when out on open road and find the MPG a lot better. Have found it to be as much as 5-6MPG average better than running D.
That's interesting. The opposite of what I'd have expected.

Would be pay back if return journey made.
Did Spain clockwise, in at the South, out at the North, called in to Gibraltar and Portugal, Carrapateira was my favourite!

I've no idea if the huge DSG gear lever is mechanically connected to the gearbox.
I hope so, as it is one thing less to go wrong!!

Because other gearbox manufacturers have patented the different mechanisms for selecting the gears! I sincerely doubt that there is a mechanical linkage, it will be a big electrical switch linked to a "brain" wired to some servo motors actuating the selectors, because that is more efficient (and far more reliable) than two belden cables. NOT!
