Hi we are currently in France on first cali trip. We have a 2010 cali. We don't seem to be able to charge up battery on electric hook up. The plug sign comes on for 20 min and then changes to an empty flashing battery sign and 0% capacity. We have changed the hook up point the fridge is on low and the current is reading 0.6ma and voltage 11v. We have a new hook up lead which has worked before. Any suggestions please?

Heat does has influence on the charger...and with the current themps. all arround europe
It could be it goes in safety-mode or error due overheating .
It works for a while and than stops so ...
What happens if you run the engine ? Does that charge the bats?

There is a distinct possibility that the Charger is overheating.
I believe on your year vehicle the Charger is located under the Fridge.
Open the L kitchen door and leave open. If there are any removable panels on the L side then remove them to improve airflow.

Heat does affect it as mentioned.

Take out the hook up cable. Make a cup of tea or pour out a glass of wine. Walk the dog if you have one or borrow someone elses. Then after a couple of hours plug it back in again. Sometimes it may take a good nights sleep before it cools off sufficiently to start working again but I normally found a couple of hours was enough.

The fridge, even on low, will be working it's little compressor-socks off and throwing out a lot of heat over an already hot charger. Next time you go move the vehicle, travel somewhere, turn the fridge on max whilst you have the engine running, get it as cold as possible and get everything else you can cold. Then turn the chilling down when at standstill. It will ease the workload on the fridge.

Thanks all. Could be it. Just been for a ride bats definitely charging. On re hooking seems to be working perhaps charger cooled a bit. Cheers

Same problem it seems. On hook up suddenly reverts to battery and plug sign disappears... Even when it's not too hot like early morning.

Maybe the fuse at The campground pillar has been fallen. It Happens often in France, Spain and Portugal....

Did it charge through the night?

Doesn’t totally depend on the outside temperature but the temperature around the Charger.
Remember VW changed the position of the Charger in later models. On yours the Fridge Heat Exchanger is pumping heat into the same compartment as the Charger.
