This is a new one on me but it looks like it is been going around a while. The day before my road tax was due received an e-mail from “DVLC” saying my payment had been declined by my bank and that I needed to update my details. The link takes to fake but very good looking and clone of the GOV DVLC. For you to update date your payment details.
Given this is the only the second time I have renewed my road tax since not getting it at the post office without a tax disc it can catch you out. Thought I would give a warning here.
