Anyone experienced using Falken HS01 Eurowinter tyres? ('23 Ocean 4motion, 255/45/18 103V tyres).

Grateful for any comments re use in snow/ice.

I run the Wild Peaks - very good option - good mix of road with the occasional off road when in Greece / France etc - no extra noise hardly any mpg diff

Hi, I haven’t used these but I’m about to go into my first winter with Falken Wildpeak AT3’s and they have a fantastic reputation for snow and are also 3 peak rated. I’m not any tyre without studs really perform on ice.

A quick search would suggest the Wildpeaks can be had for less money than the HS01’s are no noisier, actually rated better for fuel efficiency and being an AT tyre will be more durable.

I have seen some poor reviews for Wildpeaks in snow and snow performance is what I am looking for.

Why Falkens out of interest? There must be tons of stuff online to help decide which is the best tyre brand in snow?

It’s a funny thought process in my opinion.
We must have winter tyres if travelling to the Alps (which we do). I wouldn’t consider going without chains so all you really need is a tyre from a well known brand.
If it’s bad weather then you’re fitting chains.

I refuse to believe any of us could blindly tell the difference between any of the well known brands.

Last year we ran Yokos. Behaved well. Never needed chains.

Simply because I have seen a good offer on the Falkens at just over £100 per tyre. I was just asking if anyone had experience of them.

Really, they usually come out on top in most reviews of AT tyres in snow. I guess they won’t perform as well as a dedicated snow tyre. The Wildpeak AT4’s have got some criticism for being worse than the AT3’s.

I used to run BFG KO2’s and even when the tread was quite warn they were great in snow and very confidence inspiring given the Cali is a heavy car! The AT3’s are generally reviewed better than the KO2’s for snow use.

I switched to Falkens because they were notably cheaper and quieter.

Ran Falkens (admittedly not HS01's) for 3 years - no problems at all - lovely and quiet and very well behaved.

They were the other ones I was looking at and that is a good price. Well spotted!

As a brand I am more than impressed with the Falken All Season AS210 on my Volvo.

I'm looking for options on the Cali - they don't do the AS210 but do an All Season Van 11 which has had good reviews.

My old Cali had Cross Climates and my work vehicle had the standard tyres that came with it. The difference in traction on the snow was night and day.
Shame the CC were rubbish in mud.

I’m in that annoying/interesting situation where I need two new front winters whilst the rears are still healthy.

Do I change brand and try something different (assuming the rears will be done before the new fronts etc) or stick with the Yokos?

Tempted to try Continental. Reassuringly German/expensive.

I thought Best Practice was to put new tyres on the Rear no matter if it is FWD/RWD or 4 wheel drive, and having the same tyres on one axle , so permissable to have different tyres on each axle but similar in capability.

Just fitted new cross climate 3 on the front, If I’m honest, I struggle to tell the difference between different tyre brands etc, especially on a van.
Not got them muddy yet.

Please keep me/us updated re. the upgraded CC’s… I was thinking to change to these when I’ve got to renew tyres :)

Good point. I forgot that was a thing especially given my van has a rear anti roll bar (was that standard kit?) which would tend to make it neutral/oversteery, should it ever come to that!

Just to complete original thread I ended up going for Dunlop SP WinterSport 5 £186 per tyre fitted locally with £50 Amazon vouchers (so effectively £694). Very quiet, not used in snow yet!

Nice. Feedback when you get to use them in anger.
Awaiting a set of Conti’s, hopefully tomorrow.
