I would appreciate advice for filling up with water, especially when away from home. Do folks carry a hose and fittings, or use the Brandrup product, or something else?

We use the Brandrup product. We limit this to the 10L container because we have found that you can sometimes be far from a tap and carrying a container greater than 10L can be a pain. It also affords us some 'emergency' water in case we are on the road and find that we run out - We always have the 10L container in the boot.
Friends of ours take one of the flat hoses (which packs away neatly) and a whole list of adapters which they have accumulated as this assures them connection when they are on the continent.
I guess an ideal balance might be to carry both if you have the room...

I use a hose and a rubber cone adaptor that means that it fits over most taps. A brandrup or collapsible bottle type arrangement is obviously the belt and braces route, but I have never had any problems with the hose as I always stay at campsites.

I always use bottled water to drink, sorry, just a bit wary of taps parked in the middle of campsites, or worse, next to the Chemical waste disposal point.

As the comment made above I also carry a small length of hose with a cone adaptor.

Leave home with a full tank and lots of 2 litre bottles of water, Half way around and I either have the tank kept full via the hose or use an empty water bottle to top up the tank with. I only use tank water for washing, either myself, dishes or dirty clothes so it does not get used up quickly, especially if I am staying on camp sites that provide bathrooms, showers washing up facilities.

2 litre top-ups can be a bit of a fiddly pain but only really necessary for when I cannot get the van close to a water tap. Not a problem right now, there is one right next to me (parked up on a site just outside Llanelli. Granny's gone camping again).... :D :D :D :D

Well......

On my travels I carried the Brandup kit but also a 5litre bottle and a funnel.......

The tank was usually filled from village fountains, Mosques (yes they don't mind at all), odd taps found here and there...garage forecourts......but to drink it was bottled water

We use a £3 10L collapsible bottle with about a foot of garden hose duct taped to the nozzle.
Works well for us and squashes down flat so doesn't take up much space.
