I put some room tempered "food" into the fridge and set the battery protection to low to see how long it will operate.
Temperature set to 5 C.

I've just ordered an absorption cooler from Dometic. (From what I can tell it's the same internals as Waeco)

I got the RC 1205 GC so can operate on mains, 12V and gas.

The GC is for "Gas Cartridge" and it has a cradle for small 220g canisters making it really portable.

I really liked the design - let's just hope it lasts!

I got this one on sale for just over £200 which seems to be about half the price of some of the others I've seen.

I'll let you know how it pans out when it's cooled a few beers and had a few knocks.

I've got a 20 year old Coleman 3 way fridge. 240v, 12v & gas and have had no problems with it at all. I have recently seen the Dometic RC 1200EGP Gas Portable Cooler which appears to be an exact copy of it. Coleman don't do their version any more, but if it is as good - then well worth having.
Running on gas it uses virtually nothing, the flame is no bigger than a candle flame. It takes the temp well below 25C from the ambient air temp. In Snowdonia it was 31C in my tent yet the fridge in the porch was still able to make ice cubes. It is roughly a ½m cube in size.

Not sure if you mean low temp or low battery protection. Just to make you aware setting a waeco to low battery protection will let the battery run all the way down to 10.1v which could damage the batteries ability to be recharged.

I was always advised not to let batteries go below 11.5v so I use medium on my waeco to avoid damaging my battery. That still lets it go down to 11.2v in theory.

Most leisure batteries anything below 12v is considered discharged.

It's Deep Black ... but the blue sky is reflecting in the shiny paint in that photo Although funnily enough I'm colourblind and Blackberry looks identical to Deep Black to me!

I mean low protection. I changed it now to medium protection.
I domt know which kind of battery the beach has as leisure battery, someone suggested only the ocean has a proper kind of battery and the beach have two starter batteries?

According to the brochure it should be an AGM battery in either but funnily enough when I had my heater fitted we discovered my leisure battery in my beach was in fact a 80ah lead acid one and not the 68ah AGM it should have been. It was a leisure battery though and not a starter one thankfully.

Late, but travelling. Pics of where it's currently a good fit when using the bed downstairs. Keeping battery alive with solar. Overnight the fridge takes it down to 12.2v or so .ambient 15c overnight. fridge set to 1. But the battery (a starter 80 acid) is not in good shape. Need a new one.

I have had my CFX28 connected for 24 hours now, the battery reads 12.4, dropped from 12.9 when I started the fridge 24 hours ago.

Fridge stopped on medium protection at 12.4V after 30 hours of 5C degrees.
I measured with three voltmeters. When I set the fridge to low protection and the compressor started it went down to 12.2V
I hoped the beach could sustain the most the most energy efficient coolbox safely much more than 24 hours.

We load it up the night before we go away and chill it on the mains at home.

We drive to our destination connected to 12V in the bus (supplied by the alternator so leisure battery is unaffected)

We install the CP250 cans when we arrive and they last just over a day(26 hours) in +25'C heat.

This summer we were able to get 4 CP250 cans for £5.

We can put it in the awning, take it away for picnics, day trips, on the beach...

What's not to like?

We used one of these on our month long tour of Europe - worked great, capacity was fine for four for a few days:

Coped with high temperatures (38 deg + summer sun) no problem. Compressor did not need to come on much but when it did it was a little noisy.

Most important thing with whatever fridge you are using is to bypass the cr@ppy 12v cig plug type connection and hard wire it directly to the leisure battery via an inline fuse. Much better voltage this way.

Someone mentioned the Camping Gaz canniseter above - again get these from Amazon, we used about 18 of them on the same one month trip and that is in two cartridge cookers for meals for four every day.

The CG ones last better than others I'm sure and 24 delivered are £24 via Amazon.

I think that is who I got mine from. I believe they are at Arleigh International (Carvan supply distributor) in Nuneaton, I picked my CF40 up from them in person.

These look identical to the Coleman 3 way fridge I bought 20 years ago. Still works perfectly. Not so good on the 12V as you can't control the temp, either off or on. Runs off a gas cylinder so I ran it off a 907 which I could also use for cooking.
It kept the milk, wine, etc at a very healthy 3-4C when the temp in my tent was 33C. It will make ice if you turn it down low enough. Mine had a special ice tray that sat on the silver bit in the lower part of the photo by the milk, it covers the cooling element.
A very useful piece of kit.

Since we ran our 50l fridge as a freezer on a last trip we needed a cooler.
Found this neat cooler box in decathlon that worked insanely good.

They claim it holds temperature better then Thermoelectric ones and plastic boxes and it proved pretty right.
Any goods you put there from a fridge hold the temperature over 24 hours.
So we were adding something cool from the freezer to keep the temperature below 10'c.
Also it is very light and sits perfectly on a storage box.
