The fridge hasn't worked since I bought the van earlier this year. I should have checked how expensive they were to replace!

When I try to switch on via the control panel I can hear a quiet 'click' noise and then silence. The fridge symbol then flashes. The batteries are fully charged and there is no draw showing.

From reading the threads it seems the compressor may have gone. Is there anything else I should consider e.g re-gassing before I look into replacing the compressor? How difficult is it to replace the compressor? Could I order one and then get a local person to install?

Penguin Refrigeration seem a good company from the comments but are a long way from Nottinghamshire. Does anyone know a similar companies in the Midlands/Yorkshire?

Thanks for any help.

Have you checked for Diagnostic Codes on the Control Panel?

1. Hold down the centre of the rotary button together with the menu button (button below with the squares on it)

2. You will get the hidden menu.

3. Rotate the rotary button to get to "VW diagnose" and select this by pressing on the centre of the rotary button.

4. If no errors are present it will display "no errors"

5. If Errors are present then a list of errors will appear

6. Press the centre of the rotary button again to delete all the errors

7. Repeat process above just to check that errors have dissapeared!

8. Re-configure the time and date if neccesary.

Any problems should be resolved assuming these are Electronic and not Mechanical.

Fridge fix post

Penguin are really good with courier/small pallet posting of fridge units once out of the van. Highly unlikely it’s the compressor.
