Fuel Flap opens accidentally

Often when getting out of the Caly from the driver's side, the fuel flap opens by touching it accidentally with my leg. Once it even stayed open unnoticed... Is there any trick to avoid this?

Has the small black lug that fits behind the door on the fuel flap to prevent it being opened been broken? If so that could be getting reason for the flap opening. I take it you have a left hand drive Cali?
