GC Build Delay

We have just had n E-mail from VW UK Commercial advising that the build of our new GC600 will be delayed, it mentions component shortages, in particular semiconductors. Has anyone else had this message too, will a lengthy delay mean we have to absorb the price increase? We ordered in August and it was due in Q1/2 2022. Any info gratefully received, will contact the dealer also.

I've had the same email today, very generic with no information relating to length of anticipated delays, not even GC specific as it doesn't actually say which model(s) - likely it affects all.

Pretty well all of them except Wi-Fi, inductive charging, Bluetooth and 2nd bed…. So a few semiconductors I suppose…. And it had to be the 3.88T too due to the added extras.

Ordered October,not heard a peep.
Mind you the dealer said 9 to 10 months.
I didn't order tyre pressure gauge as I thought it would make me too reliant.
Although 2022 June 3.8 tonnes need them on new models.
Cali Chris last update said 4 months and it was back to the pre Pandemic schedule.

Hopefully we will all be pleasantly surprised. Cali Chris seems to have stopped his videos now, apparently he has been promoted to run the North Wales dealership. His videos are first class.

VW usually honour purchase price when they delay delivery. Just about every vehicle manufacturer are having delayed production due to Semiconductor shortage.

VW have recently started there is no longer price protection. Lots of chatter about it on here and some delivery date deadlines but basically no more protection. This is also true of BMW and others I’m sure.

Guess that the increasing inflation rate (German) is ending that price hold.

I ordered a LWB MAN TGE with most of the bells & whistles in late August and was told then the delivery wouldn't be before May 2022 so those of you with a camper build time added to that must be looking at an even later delivery date.
Not had a chirp of a build date yet.

We have ordered a new Crafter which is being converted. Ours was ordered 22nd February 2021 still not heard anything!!

I sincerely hope that you are in a minority! If I were you I would be giving my Van Centre some serious ear ache. I think if you were to ask questions on the VW Crafter (2017+) and MAN TGE - Self Build Group FB Page you may get some 'real time' examples of vehicles ordered about the same time as yours.
I was quoted May 2022 on a TGE order placed at the end of August 2021 although I've taken that with a pinch of salt.

I think if you were to ask questions on the VW Crafter (2017+) and MAN TGE - Self Build Group FB Page you may get some 'real time' examples of vehicles ordered about the same time as yours.

Hopefully GC will be in a shorter timescale to van, one van converter we spoke to in Swansea warned us that large delivery companies had block booked most Crafter slots but he advised the GC is made on a separate production line, albeit collocated in Poland. Fingers crossed….. Hope yours comes soon too.

I would think that the base vehicles all come off the same line although I am told that the Crafter and TGE are produced on different lines but in the same plant.
I assume it would only be the GC specific build that is in a specialist production hall.

Given the opportunity I would love to visit the production facilities in Poland.

Not sure about the build process to be honest, the Swansea specialist had apparently been on a factory visit and related the separate GC build line to us, either way we just want one! lol

Well I was quoted May too, but then jumped to August then December.

We have taken advice from forums and ordered a smaller table and spare water pump etc. can’t wait! So after the delay E-mail from VW before Christmas, much excitement for the New Year.

Hi @Calfe600 that's good news! I had a similar update on Monday, my provisional build week has now been firmed up and has come forward about 10 weeks, now end of Jan like yours. I also placed my order in August. Can't wait!

Great news all round then, we were warned some time ago that some extras might be in short supply, but the dealer reassured us yesterday that it is coming to the exact spec we ordered. Ridge Monkey coming today and a shopping list to work through, really can’t wait
