It has been some considerable time since I last shinned up a lamppost, but am I right in thinking that modern lampposts are hinged so the lamp can be serviced without a cherry picker? If so, all a deviant teenager need do to hoist a shopping trolley to the summit of a lamppost is source a key to unlock the hinge.

Apparently it took the Fire Brigade with a turntable ladder to get it down, so I presume this lamp wasn’t hinged.
