I’ve seen this tow ball mounted box and would like to know if anyone has used it?
http://www.towboxbelgie.be/towbox-v1-acheter-fr/
It’s 599euro for the box + 85 euro for a ski adaptor + 60 euro to ship to the UK = 749 euro’s
I like the idea of being able to get 4 pairs of ski boot in the box and skis on the top (and using it in the summer too for an inflatable kayak).
It seems expensive so want to know how well made it is.

60€ shipping to the UK
They have a location in Kortrijk (Belgium) less then 1h drive from Calais , you could almost come over to check it out and pick up...if your not far away from Dover.

Unfortunately I’m in North Yorkshire.

They’ve emailed me to say the back door wont open on a California, so I’m not as interested now ☹️

Back to researching carrying a family and all the ski gear

There is a box (or was it a bike rack) that sits on rails and can can be rolled aside to open the tailgate , think it is been shown on the forum before.

EDIT : it was this i recalled but it's a bike rack , you could mount a box on the rack.

Do you need acces to the tailgate while travelling ? Arriving at site just take the box away , seems it has wheels.

Did you see the box in this tread?

Thanks HC. I’d looked at the MFT in this thread https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/thread...unted-storage-box-tailgate-access.6959/page-3

It looks like access is the issue with all of these.

I have an Atera 3DL bike rack that tilts away and allows door access even with bikes on so I may see if I can buy some Thule ski carriers for roof bars and see if I can modify my rack. Travelling as a family (4 of us) we inevitably need something from the tailgate.

Found some pics searching the Caliboard (I do not own any of these pictures: Skitransport im Cali

Wrestling with the same problem. Found out on the t4 forum a guy had bolted a Thule roof box to his vw bike rack which seemed to do the job. Will be looking at the practicality of doing this at the weekend.

Do you have a link to that post please @Trev ?

http://www.bak-rak.com/box-rak.htm We have that one ,not sure if of any use with ski equipment but we put a lot of stuff in it to keep van less full and are able to open tailgate most of the time whilst camping unless there is a slope in unfavorable direction in which case we just take box of tow bar and secure to ground

Hi there. Yes here you go http://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=418372#/topics/418372?page=1

Wasn’t sure if I’d cause offence by posting a ‘rival’ forum link when I first posted! My plan is slightly scuppered as our roof box and one of a friend that we are “looking after” are both too wide when mounted. So back to the drawing board. The concept is good so I can see a bit of diy over next few weeks. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks @Trev & we’re all van lovers at heart. Yes. Need to get beyond Christmas holidays and get my head around it.

Plan B is the Halfords sale is on. Looks like for £140 they have something that will fit and I can re use on those camping trips where we carry the kitchen sink.
