Your Avatar has no vehicle information, but if it is a new vehicle and first time then it might be a bit smelly on start up but should settle down once unto temperature and " burnt in" so to say. It is just unburnt diesel you get on start up. Perfectly safe and more prominent if you have the side door open. The amount of Carbon Monoxide produced is so small it is almost unmeasurable. Using the gas burner without ventilation is more dangerous.
