You could tape a baby toy / dog toy with a squeaker to the top front of the awning - no squeak - safe to pass

For us, we need one on the rear of the awning too. I cracked the awning end cap reversing under a low hanging tree branch in a car park.

I'm currently re-instating an integrated garage to its original purpose so I can tuck my Cali safely away at night. Started stripping it out today and it's looking like I'll have 2.1m of available height overall. Is that going to be enough for my 6.1 Coast? It seems promising.

There's an initial "ramp" where the gradient of the driveway continues up into the garage, then at about 1m in it levels off sharply to a constant, near horizontal pitch all the way to the back. I'm intending to drive in forwards, so I'm tempted to say I would not have any problems with the approach angle. Should be able to test it out in the next day or two.

My builder is of course offering to dig out the existing base and put in a new one.

As long as the threshold is level, sounds like you’ll have just enough height if you breathe in and duck as you drive in!
Suggest when you inflate your tyres or unload the boot you get someone to stand on the rear bumper and check as you ease in…

We have a rather tight fit but avoided the need to dig down! One of us stands on a ladder and watches the van in everytime.
Getting the van lowered would be my main plan someday!

We parked in the Drop and Go at Manchester Airport. It state 2m, so wife got out to check and it cleared it easy and we have a solar panel fitted.
She is still their waiting for my return

Of course, but gravity ensures that the string measurement technique is a vertical one. No such guarantee for the tape measure technique

I thought that too but looking at that picture again I reckon a full/empty tank of diesel or even a light lunch could make a difference!

It's not just the height - we have an inch at front and back too so have to be guided in as it's too close to call. I don't quite trust the tennis ball method on the windscreen when it's that a tight.

You could carry a top hat; that should be about the right size. Whenever you're uncertain, just get out, put your top hat on, and walk up and down under the barrier. I'm sure everyone behind you in the queue would understand, though you might want to put on white tie and tails as well, just so they didn't think you looked silly.

Maybe one of those collapsible top hats that clowns wear would make storage easier, Just saying.

What happens if the road under the barrier has been resurfaced?

If it marked less than 2.1 I would avoid it

As for garages, buy some steel wheels and drive in without tyres, this is how my dad stored an eriba Puck caravan on 10 inch mini lites
