Hi folks, first trip to test out the van and not going too well so far! It’s very cold here in Winchester and we put the aux heat to heat continuously. The light is on the panel and the heater fires up. I’ve selected camping mode in the panel too. However I then want to play some music from my iPhone through the car speakers. I have to turn on the main media interface and as soon as it says Welcome Paul the aux heater turns itself off. The music will only play if I’m connected via WiFi to the car (surely should work via just Bluetooth connection?)
This also means I cannot use the internet in my phone because it’s connected to the car and I cannot connect to the campsite WiFi as the music stops. It’s very frustrating but the main issue is the heating. We either have heating or music but not both?!

Just to also add that when we change the temp on the control panel (roof panel) the main infotainment screen comes back up with the Welcome Paul message. Surely a software issue?

Well most people have to choose from heat or eat so this is a new one!
Honestly the media system wifi/bluetooth is the most frustrating I (and many others) have come across.
Personally, for now, I would "forget" the van wifi on your phone so you can get a decent internet (campsite wifi or 4G) and I'd settle for music from the phone until you've figured out the issue.
You should be able to bluetooth easily enough but without going out (in the cold) and messing I can't remember the exact way to do it....
Disconnecting wifi may just sort it anyway

Good luck

The infotainment system is not meant to be used while camping, only while driving. Radio will also turn off after 1h if ignition is not turned on. And you can’t leave ignition on as it will drain starter battery.

That seems crazy. So if you want to play music or listen to the radio whilst off grid (or even on EHU), you can’t use the van speakers?

Indeed. people use smartphone or tablet or bluethooth speaker or battery operated radio.. if they feel the need for noise while camping.

The radio runs off the starter battery not the auxiliary battery so the system is doing you a favour and preventing a dead battery in the morning.

Well I’m very disappointed in this aspect. It would seem logical most people would want some sort of entertainment and a lot of folk here have TV’s of various sorts. I didn’t want to bother with that and just listen to music. Can’t imagine why VW couldn’t have some way of at least allowing it to work when on EHU. Anyway thanks for clarifying, will bring the smart speaker next time!
