Help awning problem

Hi. Made the criminal error of putting the awning up in the wind and it blew off. I’ve fixed it and have new parts but have 2 questions.
1. What’s the best way to get the rubber strip back on the van.
2. Do I attach the new brackets to the van and then attach the awning or attach the brackets to the awning and then the whole thing to the van.

Brackets to the van, strip in between.
Then hook the awning onto the brackets, wind it out a couple of feet and screw in the 2 screws that hold it onto the brackets.

Soften it in a bucket of hot soapy water, it should go in easier.

I took my awning off last winter (leaves in the gap) and used neat washing up liquid to help it slide on. I think the awning needs to be fully unwound in order to fit the two bolts which hold it in place.

Not fully unwound, 2ft or so to get the socket in and turn without fouling the arms.

Not fully unwound, 2ft or so to get the socket in and turn without fouling the arms.

I must have missed a trick because I couldn’t get at the bolts till the awning was pretty much fully out.
