Hi - I’m having difficulties with my Ocean. Electrics strange and central locking won’t work - lock . How can I manually lock the tailgate ? Any tips to reset electrics ? - rear wiper not working, windows not working, central lock not working, says side door is open when shut and vica versa. Weird! Was fine and happened just now all at once ! Scrambled? Help :)

I guess a starter battery disconnect/reconnect would be worth a try as it should perform a reset. ???

Check the battery voltage is good (>12v) and esp that the earth strap / earth terminal is secure.

Does the van start? If so this would suggest battery is not the issue.

These items are all controlled by the Body Controller, do the lights interior/exterior work? These are also controlled by Body Controller

To perform a "Reset" an engine battery disconnect would do the trick, but this doesn't sound like a typical software issue/bug, esp the Door Adar signal being inverse.

Thanks for the help! - the van starts and voltage is fine - and the interior light works- although it stays on when the side door is shut because it thinks the side door is open! So odd!

Most odd electrical issues with various faults are normally earth issue in my experience, or one connector on the BCM, although odd this happened at once if nothing has been touched.

The side door, I would check the metal contacts in both sides of the door connectors. Black wedge on edge of door with 6 gold contacts and receiver in the door shut face. Just check for anything blocking it or maybe green growth. If so, just use an old tooth brush to clean out, nothing aggressive, at least to start with. If it is green growth then this will need to be cleaned off thoroughly.

The rear wiper / windows the only link is the BCM, so might be a loose connector, but these normally have double latches that snap in to prevent this.

Thanks - really odd as you say. the AA man showed me this and said I should go to VW specialist !

Someone else on the forum with better knowledge of the T6 might be better placed to help. @Loz

My next step would be to check all the fuses, inc the main fuses in the engine bay, esp if this was sudden.

Normally the Body Controllers (BCM) have multiple power feeds with separate fuses, so it might be one has gone.

The Side Door Adar being inverse is just odd, the majority of the logic is in the electronics not the software, but they switch to ground, so you can get odd readings if the power or grounds are not correct on the Body Controller.

I would then check the Body Controller connectors are all correctly latched, it is on the drivers' side behind the lower dash trim panel.

TBH on the cars I have worked on the Body Controller is part of the immobilisation system and if it was offline completely the car won't start, but again I am not a VW specialist, again it would suggest the BCM is partially working.

All good suggestions so far..
what year is your ocean?
is there any damp(wet) behind the drivers side carpet?
You might need to inspect for rodent damage to cables.
as suggested, reset the bcu by removing the starter battery cables and touching them together.
reconnect and start again.
Has anything been done to it recently?
where are you located?

Thanks for the ideas and questions - yes it all just happened today at the same time. Yesterday all was normal. No signs of damp or rodents , although can never be sure! AA guy told me to leave it with earth off overnight and said there was a chance I could be lucky - but most likely not. A lot of the errors were temporary but the ‘incorrect coding’ is the one he (his diagnostic iPad!) thinks is the cause. Let’s see...

P.S. It’s a 2017 Ocean and no work done since last service in May this year.

Sounds similar to a fault my mate had on his Caravelle, ended up being rodent damage on a whole loom under the floor

Sadly - cost wise - warranty is over. Although I must say the main dealers I used in the warranty period were the worst garage I ever can across! I googled a local independent vw specialist and will call them Monday and see if they can take a look!

One of the exclusions of the extended warranty purchased after year 3 is wiring, so if it caused by that or rodent damage you would not have been covered anyway.

Where abouts are you?

I have a VCDS and would be willing to run it through your Cali to see what errors are reported.

The Delphi diagnostics unit is a generalised quality garage tool for all brands of vehicle, so is likely only pulling down the error codes and interpreting them. Whereas VCDS is specific to VW group vehicles only.

As others have suggested, issues with the battery can generate erroneous errors.

That's why I asked earlier but he didn't say.
Apologies Loz, I did not read your message. I guess that we await a reply from him to see if we can help.

Sorry guys I missed that about location - I’m just south of Aylesbury.

Ahh. A bit too far for me with tier4 in place. Perhaps someone else here can help with vcds more local to you?

Thanks for the thought anyway Alan!

The club here did use to loan a vcds for around £20 per week. It might be worth contacting CaliKev to see if this is still available.

Thanks for all the advice. To conclude things, Cordwallis VW solved it today. As the AA man suspected, the BCM had lost coding. They reprogrammed it and all works fine. Hope it stays that way!

that's a good end result. Did they cite any reason for it going wrong?

Hi - they suspected either a battery voltage loss or a ‘spike’ of power. I never had a battery issue and the battery was at 12.6 when it happened. So a bit unknown really.
